found in CPLDC2540S's reviews: A- compressor except for the regulator - I've been searching for a portable compressor for a couple of months now and near the end came up with three to chose from: the Emglo 55155, a Hitachi dual stack and this PC. Other compressors did meet these, but what draw me was the oil lube system that permits you to use it on uneven surfaces.5max) to not trip the circuit breakers, filtered intake (not output though) for longer motor life, shrouded motor for airflow from fan and good manual. The only thing I added at the universal coupler end is a water/air filter. A great compressor - So far I'm really impressed with this compressor. The handle does make it fairly easy to transport, but it is still heavy so I recommend buying a second hose to reach the work instead of moving the compressor. The motor is quiet in relation to other compressors I've heard.

found in C6110's reviews: Excellent Compressor - Great compressor and design. Works well for inflating and small air tools. Only concern for some may be the lack of a shroud around the motor and tubing which get very hot. Not an issue if compressor is located out of the way and longer hose used.

found in CPLDC2541S's reviews: Takes to much power and is too loud (also flimsy switch) - This compressor absolutely will NOT run on 15 amps. Either the motor bogs down and won't run or it will pop the breaker. This makes this compressor almost usless for me because I can never find anywhere to plug it in. I was just working in a basement at the same time as a guy that had a Hitachi compressor and his was less than HALF as loud. The guy helping me tripped over the air hose and it caught on the little shutoff lever. This piece is connected to a plastic piece inside the electrical hosing, which broke off. Now my compressor won't even shut off. I'm seriously thinking about just leaving this for the garbage man and buying the DeWalt Emglo compressor. I ended up buying a CastAiraircompressor. CastAir is not a commercial brand, but the factory where they are made is about 2 miles from my house in Chaska, MN. These compressors were only recently made available to non-commercial applications (previously they specialized in huge compressors used in body shops, etc. It's quiet, powerful, and SOLID as a ROCK!!! A REAL contractor grade compressor for the same amount as I paid for this PC. I have NO relationship or incentive to recommend CastAir other than I'm a very satisfied customer. Check them out if you want a REALLY great compressor.

found in C3551's reviews: It rolls! - Powerful motor and compressor. Runs on a 15 amp electrical circuit with no problems. Heavy duty, high quality piece of equipment that runs circles around similar units I've used. Good mid-range job compressor. - My old dual tank wheel barrow-style compressor that I bought at Truitt and White Lumber in Berkeley lasted for ten years of moderate but daily use in my remodeling business. When that finally broke down I bought a pancake compressor as a quick fix, since I was doing more and more design work and gradually easing my way into retirement. So I decided to purchase this mid-range compressor.
As described below, the compressor is not the most durable. But overall, it's been a good handy compressor that I would recommend for anyone who is not engaged in heavy duty framing and running the thing 8 hours a day for months and years on end. For that you need the old double-tank wheelbarrow style compressor. Rattler - As some previous comments, Porter-Cable needs to do a much better job of packaging this unit!
Luckily, there was no external damage to the unit, but there is quite a few things rattling around either in the motor or the tank (I can't tell which) so, I'm afraid to put oil in it and getting it started. Was pleased the second time - First shipment came damaged (cast motor mounts sheared off). I have not used satelite regulator option, I suppose if you were 500' from compressor it might be handy. Good idea, but a bit more durabilty would be nice - I've been using this compressor for about 2 years of daily remodeling work in Colorado in all weather conditions. I bought it because I was tired of lugging around other compressors that didn't have wheels. The rolling design of this compressor is very good because it can easily go up and down stairs as well as over typical construction site obstacles.
After a year of use the motor kept tripping breakers, so I took the compressor in for service and it received a new compressor and motor.
I work on job sites that have ancient compressors that continue to function flawlessly (but they're really heavy to move around), so I'm a bit worried by the problems I've noticed in only 2 years of use.
Because this compressor is oil lubricated, it does get sluggish in the winter. It also cannot supply as much air as the oil-free version. A trim subcontractor I know has the oil-free version and he has to rebuild his compressor annually with a $40 repair kit, so oil free isn't entirely without issues.
If you already have a compressor you like, I'd bolt some good wheels onto it and weld a nice handle onto the frame. Get a clue Porter Cable! - First I will start by saying PC makes a good compressor and we have two at the company I work for. The first C3551 showed up with the roll cage dented in two places, the air filter post bent, scratched everywhere and the big problem something metal was loose in the engine and you could hear it banging around as you moved the compressor around. The second C3551 that showed had a dented roll cage also but the big problem was more metal clanging around in the motor. compressor was two flimsy pieces of cardboard on either side of the unit.
One year warranty/30 day performance certification 8.3 scfm at 40 psi, 6.1 scfm at 90 psi Two gallon tanks provide four gallons of air supply Oil-free design-no spillage or work contamination 15 amp, 2 hp induction motor starts and runs on household current
One Year Warranty Supports use of all brad and finish nailers and moderate use of framing and roofing nailers High-flow regulator allows more work at higher pressures 3 hp induction motor for quieter operation High-pressure technology provides more usable air for longer run time
found in CPF23400P's reviews: A good compressor to get you started. - I shopped extensively for a light dutycompressor based on the following criteria: price, weight, and flow rating. It features the same motor and compressor as the PC 3HP twin stack model but is $40 cheaper and about 10 pounds lighter.
Other than that what can I say - it pumps air. It is fairly loud, but I haven't listened to many other models to make an educated comparison. I have used it quite a bit for high air flow operations, such as blowing off dust / debris and even running an air chisel to bust up concrete. It often runs full time for 5-10 minutes and is able to keep up with air demand. If you are going to be regularly moving the compressor around, spend the extra. I actually ran a compressed air line out to my garage, so the compressor can stay put in the basement and avoid potential damage from moving it.
*** 4-year update ***
I have owned this compressor for 4+ years now and am still completely satisfied. I used a hand held, air chisel to break up the mortar joints. The compressor was operating at 100% duty cycle for 10-15 minutes at a stretch, but couldn't quite keep up with continuous use of the air chisel. As an last ditch experiment, I bought a 10 gal portable air storage tank, some extra quick disconnect fittings and rigged up a reserve tank in parallel with the 4 gallon PC tank. (yes, I am an engineer) My thinking was that I would run the crap out of my little PC and if it bit the dust, that was my excuse to buy a new compressor. I am amazed to say the PC compressor ran flawlessly for the entire chimney demo and still works fine today. Something Different Inside - The pressure supplied is more than sufficient for average duty use. A slight tug on your air hose is enough to send it rolling. Great machine - The problem was, there were a couple `for' and a couple `against' this compressor which didn't help in the decision process (usually there's enough positive or negative comments to aid in making a decision). Heavy duty enough for any homeowner and most light construction jobs (finish carpentry). If you want to ensure you don't have this problem, buy a compressor with a cage around it. Heck what do you want from a COMPRESSOR!
- Plenty of air to shoot my 15ga nails and recovery time on the tank is VERY quick.
