It is more portable than the wheelbarrow compressors and can be put in the back of a pickup truck (unit is no feather weight though --- about 70 lbs!) This compressor has the best of all features--- reliable Honda engine, reliable Emglo compressor, overbuilt protective frame and quality gauges and quick connects make this an outstanding compressor. In commercial work, there are usually several trades on site (electrician, plumber, HVAC) and all of these guys are using the same power source. Most compressors capable of running two frame nailers draw enough power that it will constantly trip the the breaker on a temporary service pole unless run on 240 volts. With the gasoline compressor, all you have to do is make sure it has fuel and start it up! No extension cords and no more tripped breakers! We have used this compressor to run two paslode frame nailers shooting down 5/8" plywood nailed every 3" around the perimeter (120 mph rating) and this little guy could amazingly keep up! The compressor isn't louder than the DeWalt electric counterpart when running and the Honda engine means it will run for many years to come. Go buy a lighter,less expensive compressor for the finish guns. This machine is meant to turn out a much more substantial amount of air! The only downside to this compressor is the price and its weight. That is a lot of money to shell over for a machine that does nothing more than compress air! But, then again, would you really be reading this if all you needed was an average duty Lowe's variety compressor? And if you have a pickup, leave the unit in the back and let it run. compressor up. The compressor had no oil in it. It had obviously been turned on it's side and it leaked out over everything-compressor and nailgun. I installed them, replaced the oil and plugged it in only to get a motor hum that quickly kicked off the breaker. The airgun I borrowed was a Bostich, and it worked extremely well. |

I wanted a compressor with a cage, oil-less, side stacked tanks, and preferably some sort of lined cylinders. The last reason was because the Craftsman compressor that I had ( 220v 6hp/33gal ) the tank walls surface rusted and the air/water separator ( thank goodness I had one ) would eventually turn rusty red. The Makita is not all that light, but it is pretty well balanced,and compared to my Craftsman ( which isnt really fair because of the motor size ) it is much more quiet, this unit is nicely finished and recovers very quickly - usually runs about 10 seconds after I realize it is running again. |

I like this compressor because of its relatively light weight [39 pds. Most of the bits that would tend to get knocked off during loadind and moving are enclosed in the plastic shrouding around the motor , and the air chuck is sensibly and securly mounted on top so pulling by the air hose shouldn't break it off as has happened with other compressors I've owned . Keeping in mind that it is oil less [which means they use teflon coated rings in stead of an oil bath] I would say it falls in the middle or slightly below for a decible rating of compressors of this type . Only the Thomas industries line of compressors could truly be called quiet from what I've seen. As for qaulity and performance , I had to replace 4 rooms of carpeting about 9 years ago due to a "leak free" oil bath compressor so I switched to these oiless types and have found them to be flawless and I've never looked back. Obviously you wouldn't run a large framing crew with it , then you'd have a gas powered compressor. It still uses a 3450 rpm motor to get the air output/low 14 amp draw . Other machines sometimes have 1750 rpm motors which are quieter but pump less air. |
