found in EC12's reviews: Compressor great, regulator bad - This compressor is a great value. It has a quality oil lubricated motor and is competitively priced with "oil-less" compressors of similar size and capacity. It works great with my various small air tools (palm nailer, impact wrench, etc). My only complaint: After a few hours of light use, the regulator dial became very hard to turn, and eventually stopped working altogether. I replaced the regulator with an inexpensive AmFlo model purchased at Lowes, and am much happier with the new one -- easier to adjust, more precise, and more accurate. If Hitachi included a better regulator, they would have a 5 star product. Hitachi quaility and plenty of air. - This compressor has outlasted several other brands. The machine has run two finishing guns continuously for almost a year and hasn't needed anything more than an oil change The regulator is predictable, and adjusts as easily as other brands. We simply do not run out of air no matter how fast we are working with the Senco SFN40's. One thing we did add was a water/oil separator and filter to protect our work and our guns.
While I have given this compressor a 5 star rating, there are some things for the engineers (and you!) to think about in the next model: 1. The way the regulator is mounted it is difficult to make a manifold for two hoses without hanging those pipes out there where they can get knocked off. This means you have to hold it out away from your body a bit more than the size of the compressor would promise.
These are relatively small gigs on a really great compressor. great quality, reasonable price - The other item is the brass stem out of the upper tank to the regulator; it positions the regulator in a location which is very susceptible to be knocked off. The positives: I've used it for over a year now, building two houses (both framing and finish guns), with little or no maintenance, the oil lubed compressor is fast. Excellent Compressor - The compressor is quiet, powerful, and reliable so far. I have looked at quite a few compressors and 95% of them have something hanging out waiting to be sheared off if impacted. I think it would be fairly simple for them to tuck the regulator assembly between the tank and pump to avoid possible damage but few manufacturers do so I didn't take any stars away for that. Great price, great compressor. I modified my compressor by bolting a single gang plastic electrical box to the leg under the regulator. The compressor power cord is spliced inside the box to a recepticle and a 25 foot 12ga cord that provides power to the recepticle for accessory power tools or extension cords, etc. Shipping Problems - I was amazed how little packing/protection is provided in the box for the compressor. I opened the box and was rewared with a lot of little plastic pieces that once were the airfilter assembly. Since there does not appear to be a way for replacement parts to be sent to me, I will return the compressor without use. Get It. - The other reviews about the regulator being in a vulnerable position are true and you need to take some care with location on the job. Take care to read all the instructions before using the compressor. The compressor ships without oil in the compressor and in my haste to get started I nearly missed filling it with oil. Tremendous product, good value - )
The regulator stem is in an exposed position where it could be damaged/broken off if struck hard enough or handled carelessly, and the unit is every bit as loud as I expected (invest in some good earplugs) but still, I am extremely pleased my decision to go with this unit. EC12 Cold Start Problems - The Hitachi EC12 is a very solid contractor compressor. While these problems occur across the board among compressor manufacturers, there is a product that helps eliminate the issue. Called the Smart Start by Conrader it replaces the standard inlet filter of the compressor. A good little workhorse - Puts out enough air to keep two framing nailguns running at full speed.
I find that I am using the big shop compressor much less - it's just so easy to plug in the handy little Hitachi for everything. As the Hitachi uses an odd-sized thread for their gauges you have to either replace them with another (relatively expensive at $17 or so and weak plastic ) Hitachi gauge or replace the regulator and add a new gauge (costs a little more but most replacement regulators are better made than the original costs maybe $21 with a better gauge). Happy, but could be happier - The compressor is still fairly new and seems to provide excellent power for framing guns, finishing nailers, and hoppers. However, I am not incredibly impressed with this compressors ability to start. I realize during the cold winter mornings (not too cold in the San Francisco bay area), that some compressors require an empty tank to kick over, but this is getting a little ridiculous. I have seen on another review that a Smart Start inlet filter can be purchased to cure this problem, but it's annoying that you need to buy new parts to cure problems on a new compressor.
I guess having only one complaint for a power tool isn't too bad, but I'm sure there's a better compressor out there.
One Year Warranty Convenient control panel has regulator, gauge, and two quick connect outlets Higher tank pressure provides more usable air per tank re-charge New high-pressure design keeps tank pressure between 110 and 135 PSI 3 HP induction motor delivers 7.7 SCFM at 40 PSI, 5.5 SCFM at 90 PSI
found in CPF23400S's reviews: Compact unit, poor packaging - my unit arrived with the plastic air intake filter housing broken. In the mean time I have patched the filter housing back together with electrical tape.
Other than the poor packaging; the unit is easy to operate, stable, compact, and provides plenty of air for general household use. Plenty of Power to Offer...but it needs plenty, too. - I tried the compressor on an undedicated 15 amp circuit, and it immediately blew the switch every time. I also learned (the hard way, of course) that if you are using the compressor with a 50' extension chord (with too high a guage) on a 20 amp circuit, the pump will not get enough electricity to pump air after cutting-in when the tank pressure drops to 110 psi (the specified cut-in pressure) - the pump will start pumping, but quickly stop and you'll hear the motor straining until it blows the 20 amp circuit, too. It's cheaper, my new Porter Cable friends say, to buy more air hose than the right gauge extention chord - Ah, such knowledge I'm gaining. Sadly, the compressor arrived with an air intake filter housing badly bent downward (done apparently at the factory, as the box from Amazon wasn't damaged), so I couldn't remove the airfilter. AND, the drain valve (to drain water from the bottom of the tank) would not completely close allowing lots of air to excape from the tank. In my chats with an Amazon tool sales rep, and later with a Porter Cable tech rep (to help me unravel the compressor's electrical-needs mysteries), both Companies quickly and nicely insisted on sending me a new air intake filter housing and a new drain valve (I guess I'm getting two of each?) - no questions asked. The machine is fairly loud, but it only takes my pump about 6 seconds to refill the tanks from the 110 psi cut-in pressure to the specified 135 psi cut-out pressure. I figure the noise level goes hand-in-hand with the added power this compressor offers - power I think I need. Porter Cable Compressor Review - My compressor arrived about 7 days after I placed my order. Keep in mind that your compressor does'nt include a hose, fittings, or a filter which is a good idea to extend the life of your air tools and a must to spray paint, so these items must be purchased seperatly. It's not too loud, it can fill up fairly quick, and most of all it provided plenty of power for what I was using it for, even when using a 100 foot extension cord. This Portable Compressor is Rugged and Well Built ! - Surprised and impressed! I looked at Home Depot and Lowes and decided to order this aircompressor to save the Tax and the trouble of bring it home.
Looking at the other brands of portable compressors I really like how well this one is built.
It has a sturdy cage that protects the Tubing, Regulator, pressure switch, and brass connectors.

The new MAC2400 - Twin Stack aircompressor by Makita is blowing away the competition.3 amps to operate, a lower 1720 RPM rating and a heavy duty Intake AirFilter system like no other, its easy to see how this unit will out last and outperform everyone else. Large automotive style industrial airfilter for increased air intake and greater efficiency.
found in MAC2400's reviews: Best in class - I think it's the best for the following: A) This compressor just purrs. B) Over-built compressor compared to tank size - so cycle times are very short - if using light-duty tools, it doesn't run much anyway. C) No leaks - holds its air pressure seemingly forever when turned off (not that you shouldn't release pressure when done using it). D) The airfilter is a miniature version of an old-time car airfilter. The glaring exception is the airfilter hanging off the side - I can see this part's going to be replaced at some point when I throw it in a truck bed. In this case, the airfilter is just thrown in loose inside the box - mine broke one of the gauge glasses. Very pleased - This is my first aircompressor, and I just received it yesterday so can't vouch for long-term quality, but I just wanted folks to know that it has ZERO damage. The airfilter was packaged in a heavy plastic baggie along with the oil and manual. The thin paper manual has a few indentations from the wingnut on the airfilter pressing into it, but the compressor unit itself is showroom clean. Very Nice - I did a lot of research before settling on this Makita compressor. The only thing that kept me from giving it a 5 was that damn airfilter bouncing around in the packaging. Solid and Quite, but not packaged to be shipped upside down . . . - Bought this compressor based on Amazon reviews declaring its solid construction and quiet operation. Also, the unit is clearly packaged to survice shipment on a pallet, where it will stay right side up! Mine obviously spent some time on its head in the UPS truck, with the airfilter housing digging into the pretty face plate. Superb compressor - Makita needs to fire their packing design person. - I am extremely happy with the compressor for general garage, woodworking, and around-the-house duties. My first unit was badly damaged by a loose airfilter (with a thick metal bolt) that was just floating around in the box. I returned it, second unit also damaged in exactly the same spot also by the same free-floating aircompressor. Great luggable compressor - I really like this compressor. I bought it mainly because many reviewers claimed it was quiet and I wanted a compressor that could be moved to the work area vs. stringing hose from my other compressor in the garage. This compressor is top-notch as far as quality, fit and finish, and operation go. The air cleaner was loose in the package (Makita, you really need to put some tape or something on that!) but there was no damage or marks on the compressor. ~ Gauges on the front panel are easy to read and regulator is easy to adjust.
Con's ~ A little heavier than some other compressors of this capacity, but that is because of the extra armor. ~ Air cleaner is in a slighly precarious spot. Hey, that sounds like a pro!
Overall, if you are looking for a great quality compressor with decent portability, definitely consider this one!. Perfect compressor - quiet & powerful - I needed a compressor to put up a fence, install mouldings and refinish my basement. Well, it's a compressor and they ARE heavy. Especially a high-quality compressor like this one.
Additional comments:
The finned discharge tubing on this thing is fantastic - if you've never had your hand seared like a steak after touching discharge tubing on a compressor, you haven't truly felt pain. The pressure regulator is pretty easy to adjust once you get the hang of it. I can use the compressor in my basement shop and can barely hear it running on the main level.
If you're looking for a high-quality, oil-lube (don't know why anyone would go for a non-oil unit) compressor that will last for years, look no further.

Product Description
Portable, electric powered compressor with 3 HP, high output, heavy-duty induction motor. Convenient panel includes regulator, gauges, and 2 outlet ports.
found in CWC200ST's reviews: Compressor head is OK but the extra parts are of low quality - I bought one of these compressors a couple of months ago after doing carefull research and actually going to a repair facility here in AZ that handles warranty repairs for a variety of brands. I estimate that the compressor has about 15 (fifteen) hours of use by now. The oil pump reaches pressure rather quickly but the pressure regulator cuts the power at 120 PSI rather than 125 PSI as prescribed. You will have to tilt the compressor down and rock it side to side to get the water out, furthermore when tilted the lower drain hits the floor impedig drainage so you actually have to lift this rather heavy machine and tilt it and rockit at the same time in order to drain. Shortly after purchasing the unit one of the Quick Disconnects on the compressor will not seal itself after the hose is taken off and will merily leak all the air out in about one minute, I had to replace that so I could use the machine. For about the last five hours of use I started to notice that if left pressurized overnight the air was gone in the morning upon closer inspection I could hear a faint hiss comming from somewhere behind the regulator It was not much just enough to leak and turn the machine on about every 15 minutes even if I did not use air. Yesterday the manual regulator prooved to be the culprit as when I started the compressor for the first time it would not hold air at all. I put my head next to it to listen for the noise of air escaping and sure enough there was a faint hisssss. While I was trying to figure out where the noise is caming from The back of the manual regulator popped loose again suddenly letting all the air escape in an instant startling me and prompting my wife to ask from the kitchen some ways away: "did you do that on purpose?" Well NO. Overall the tech was right the actuall compressor is well done I believe he said it was Italian made the rest is rather sloppy and not thought out well.
