Whether you need a compressor for woodworking, painting, caulking or construction, this 5-gallon Makita is a great choice, primarily because of its impressive 6-1/2 cfm at 90 psi on a 13. Built-in Storage Compartment - Conveniently stores air fittings & accessories. Air Hose Wrap - Stores 50 of 3/8" Air Hose with handle folded or upright. Large automotive style industrial airfilter for increased air intake and greater efficiency.
found in MAC5200's reviews: Good specs for the price range - 8 amp draw, collapsible cart, oil lubed pump, good airfilter and ball valve drain. Did not find many other compressors in this price range with those specs and did not want to pay $600+ for a monster. The manual says it has a 50% duty cycle so if you need a compressor that will run without stopping look elsewhere.
On arrival the box had major rips and crushed areas fairly typical of my experiences of UPS shipment with heavy items. The regulator worked fine and seemed to be more precise than some I have used.

Porter-Cables solved the compressor mobility problem on two levels with this tool. First, and most impressively, its got a two-port removable console for remote air regulation and higher air pressure right where youre working. And the compressor itself has wheels and an extension handle, making life easier on you.
Lets face it: This compressors big, heavy and loud, with a max psi of 150. You can run three or four guns at once off it with a splitter and have no air supply problems whatsoever.5 gallon, oil-free contractor style compressor is packed with features. found in C3151's reviews: Porter-Cable C3151 - I asked tech support if this could just need to have the regulator adjusted - they said no; take it to a repair center. Left at repair center; after repair, informed they 'adjusted the regulator. Also doesn't appear to put out the volume of air advertised. Good, But..... - The only complaint is that the outlet pressure regulator is cheap. Rattle can construction - This aircompressor will rattle out most of its bolts within a year. The Pressure regulator will fail in about a year as well, be prepared to spend a lot of maintenance money keeping this piece running. Used it today for the first time - I use an air hammer to break out the old windows and they require a lot of air. This compressor worked well with some catch up time but hey, it's only a 4 1/2 gallon tank. Cord wrap is fairly useless, handle makes it portable, regulator worked, switch and air release are protected.

found in MAC700's reviews: Great Product....Bad Manual - A well put together compressor that is wonderful for the weekend warrior. This compressor is well built and should last a long time. I assume that Makita used to ship this item with airfilter attached because there is no mention in the manual that you have to install the filter. It is not difficult to perform this procedure, mind you, but it would be nice to have it mentioned in the manual under the section on setting up the compressor. Very good - The compressor is packed very well without any damage. After running it over 20 minuates, I discovered that I did not install the airfilter. Lives up to all reviews - Follow the break-in directions! Put on the filter and add the oil. Reviewer from Arizona - I am pleased with this Makita's compressor. Comparing it to other light weight/low capacity compressors I had before the engine noise is not that bad. For instance the airfilter is place in an aluminum container whereas most other small compressors use plastic containers instead which can easily break off. Great little compressor - Be sure to fill with oil and install the airfilter before starting. Serious PITA, but cost was minimal and repair works fine.
All in all, a great little compressor, and the best choice if noise is a concern. The powers that be heard about the shipping problems. - The compressor was in a second cardboard enclosure that isolated it from anything else in the first carton, the accessories (airfilter, oil) were individually packed in sealed plastic bags and isolated in their own cardboard compartment. The compressor came with a universal quick change connector installed. Great Product - shipping bad - Our box was clearly tossed around or banged into during shippment which broke off the airfilter assembly that screws into the cylinder head. To avoid the HUGE hassle of returning/shipping the compressor to Amazon, incurring shipping charges that were initially free when I ordered the compressor, lugging it back to UPS, and waiting for who knows how long for a replacement, I contacted Mikita and got a replacement part directly from them. Makita Delivered - My Makita compressor was delivered 1 day after placing my order - by UPS, no special handling. Instead of a noisly BRBRBRBRAAT that my previous compressor made, this machine just purrs, and conversations can be made without raised voices right on top of the unit. Set-up consists of adding the supplied container of oil, screwing on the chrome airfilter, and running the unit for 15 minutes under no load to lubricate cylinder and valves.
You won't find this compressor at Lowe's or Home Depot, and the ones you do see there are physically bigger, not much more capacity, and twice as expensive. The closest unit I could find was on eBay - 4 Gal unit oiled Eaton compressor at $165. Great compressor for my CD Eraser operation, bearable noise level - I bought a $300 DeWalt compressor and it was very loud. I have a blister packaging machine in the garage that requires compressed air to operate the heat sealing plate. Anyhow, this Makita compressor is used in the garage along with my machine and the noise level is bearable. Remember to put the filter before running it, before breaking it in. An Airbrushing Powerhouse -
I use it to power airbrushes along with an added-on airbrush regulator/gauge/moisture trap. This is exactly what I wanted for airbrushing. It has a much longer lifespan than "airbrush compressors". The airbrushes work consistently all throughout the refill phase. This is the muscle car of airbrush compressors even though it was made in Taiwan. 5 to 10 minutes of airbrushing in silence, and when it comes on it does have some volume, but it is so much less noise than an oilless. Great compressor, but check the box thouroughly before signing for delivery! - After working with a friend's older version of this compressor for the last eight months, I decided to splurge and get my own. If this compressor is anything like the older model, it's going to last forever. It looks like someone must've dropped it, and from a pretty good height! One of the legs was bent about 2 inches, so the compressor would rock when set down. Fortunately, the compressor itself (external tubes and gauges and whatnot) are all fine. It's annoying, but I don't want to go through the exchange process and be without air for another two weeks.
The startup process is fairly simple. There are two plastic plugs on the compressor that need to come out. One covers the oil filler, and one covers the air intake port. You replace the plug on the air intake port (topmost plug) with the included airfilter, and you replace the oil filler plug with the included oil cap. Then, open the air release valve at the very bottom of the air tank and run the compressor for 20 minutes. Check the oil level periodically, of course!
On a related note, I also bought the Campbell Hausfeld MP520010AV air tool accessory kit to get me started. Quiet, Solid, Well Made - I wanted a portable compressor for using my nail guns at old houses, and was ready to replace my antique mastodon shop compressor. I was thinking I may have to buy two compressors, most portable units were too loud for the shop. A few weeks ago I bought a Ridgid brand "oil-free" compressor at Home Depot but it was so loud that I couldn't use it indoors, even covered with a chunk of old carpet. It had good air flow.3 CFM is higher than many of the 75-pound twin stack compressors I saw. To reduce cycling in the shop, I attached my 5-gallon air tank (the kind you use for putting air in a flat tire) to the tank side of the regulator with a T and snap coupler.like don't use the compressor in the bathtub. It's a large, high quality compressor mounted on a small, portable tank. You'll get really spoiled if you're used to a noisy oil-less compressor.

At just a foot high and less than two feet wide out of the carton, this compressor was quite a bit smaller than we expected, so to be fair, we quickly lowered our expectations. The joke was on us, though, because this little powerhouse just doesnt quit, and we learned that you cant judge a compressor by its size. Emglos half-century in the compressor business is evident in this model, and with a couple of small exceptions (well get into that in a minute), we dont think anyone could make a finer piece of air power. Now, this may be a plus or a minus in your book, but we liked the fact that the compressor is factory set to power on at 100 psi an+d shut off at 120 psi, and the cycle time was under 15 seconds.) It has air aplenty for two nailers at once, and with that fast recovery, the job will get done in no time.
In balance, this is one of the best compressors weve seen for the size, power, ruggedness and incredible portability it offers. Heres to a great pairing of two great toolmakers.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

found in D55155's reviews: regulator problem - i also am having regulator problems with this unit. Good machine, but some packaging and assembly issues - To my dissatisfaction, it arrived with a broken airfilter and some loose items rolling around in the air tank. No, it wasn't the airfilter parts, it was something metalic actually inside the closed tank! Amazon referred me to DeWalt who referred me to my local service center. DeWalt was nice enough to agree to send a replacement filter, but I returned the unit to Amazon because of the loose items in the tank.
Thanks to Amazon's incredibly fast and hassle-free process for returns, I had my replacement compressor less than a week later. Unfortunately, it too had a broken airfilter. I think it's a design issue with the end of the filter rather close to the manifold - sharp jolts such as dropping the box could lead to contact. But since everything else was fine, I bought a filter locally (DeWalt's replacement has yet to arrive) for $10 and kept the compressor. This was not in the first shipment and is REQUIRED before starting the unit which is something that as a first-time compressor buyer, I would not have known to do.
I recommend this machine but please check over your unit carefully when it arrives and call DeWalt's parts center to get a free replacement filter if that's all you find wrong. Major quality control problems... - Naturally when it came time to get a new compressor, I decided to go for Dewalt as well.
Once the package arrived, the airfilter was broken and the motor/compressor was not operating. To my surprise the second unit came with a broken airfilter which completely boggles my mind as it is in a protected area and I can't see how this could be damaged during shipping. If it was the airfilter only, I would have kept it, but the frame on this unit was completely twisted and the face place where the gages are on was completely warped out of shape.
I think I have had it with getting a Dewalt compressor. Regulator Problems - I have gone through 2 regulators all ready. Paradox - I just pulled the compressor out of the box and was mightly impressed. the regulator refused to work. roofer wayne - I used many compressors in 28 years of roofing. The only thing that was wrong with the first dewalt was the airregulator started leaking and had to be replaced. Other then that, it worked every day for two years so far, that with two or three roofing guns going which is like four framing guns and I did not notice it starving for air. This compressor is the best and durable for the Professional. Major quality control and service issues - I am a contractor and have had this compressor for three years. This is the worst compressor I have ever owned. I have had the regulator, cold start valve and check valve assembly replaced, but nothing has had any effect. I should have just replaced the compressor for the headache it's been. A very good compressor - I replaced my hotdog style oil-less compressor when the connecting rod decided to break.
While at the local hardware store I saw the DeWalt D55155 compressor and thought, "geez, you could not miss that compressor!" The bright yellow paint made this compressor stand out and then that's when I saw the name Emglo. It has a 4 gallon tank, two connectors on the front, an easy to use regulator and gages that are protected by the heavy roll frame and face plate. This compressor also has a ball valve on the bottom of the tank for easy draining. This ball valave is also inside the frame as is every component of the compressor. It's mounted inside the roll cage near the copper line running from the compressor to the tank. It might be, but, I put the compressor away from where I'm working so this is not an issue.
As with any compressor you have to keep the extension cords short.
So, would I buy this compressor again if I had to? You bet!.

found in C3551's reviews: Was pleased the second time - Very quiet, nice regulator, works well. I have not used satelite regulator option, I suppose if you were 500' from compressor it might be handy. Porter Cable lacks quality control - After following the breaking procedure, I noticed that the regulator wouldn't let out any air. (Also, the compressor being so quiet won me over and I was willing to overlook few minor problems in order to keep it.
Porter Cable indicated the problem might be due to the regulator being blocked by a dope sealant, and suggested I remove it to check. I will receiving a replacement compressor tomorrow and I will post how that worked out, at that point I will be adjusting my rating for the product. mine came damaged too! - The main pressure gauge was sheared off (behind the control panel) and the frame was dented and airfilter busted. Get a clue Porter Cable! - First I will start by saying PC makes a good compressor and we have two at the company I work for. The first C3551 showed up with the roll cage dented in two places, the airfilter post bent, scratched everywhere and the big problem something metal was loose in the engine and you could hear it banging around as you moved the compressor around. compressor was two flimsy pieces of cardboard on either side of the unit. Performs to expectations - According to the output regulator, the cut-off pressure was right at 150 pounds and cut-in was near 120 pounds. I specifically wanted an oil lube compressor for durability, and this model fits that requirement. For handyman work or specialty trim nailing, this compressor is ideal. Good idea, but a bit more durabilty would be nice - I've been using this compressor for about 2 years of daily remodeling work in Colorado in all weather conditions. I bought it because I was tired of lugging around other compressors that didn't have wheels. The rolling design of this compressor is very good because it can easily go up and down stairs as well as over typical construction site obstacles.
After a year of use the motor kept tripping breakers, so I took the compressor in for service and it received a new compressor and motor.
Presently the regulator has been drifting a bit, but it hasn't annoyed me enough to get it fixed.
I work on job sites that have ancient compressors that continue to function flawlessly (but they're really heavy to move around), so I'm a bit worried by the problems I've noticed in only 2 years of use.
Because this compressor is oil lubricated, it does get sluggish in the winter. It also cannot supply as much air as the oil-free version. A trim subcontractor I know has the oil-free version and he has to rebuild his compressor annually with a $40 repair kit, so oil free isn't entirely without issues.
If you already have a compressor you like, I'd bolt some good wheels onto it and weld a nice handle onto the frame.
