found in TG-400HST's reviews: Air Cube 1 - This compressor is a contractor's dream.4 CFM @ 100 PSI air delivery. This 1-1/2 foot cube gas compressor fits in the trunk of a midsize vehicle. This is the only gas power compressor that I have worked with that a single average size person can move (alone). The engine optimizes fuel efficiency by automatically slowing to an ideal speed when the air tanks are full.
The engine, even while operating faster to fill the air tanks, is relatively quiet allowing a normal conversation a few feet away. It is quieter than the pancake compressors I have used.
Each air tank has a separate moisture drain valve to keep the tanks from rusting on the inside.
* The airregulator comes with two 1/4" female NPT thread connections. Since I could not remove the stripped hex plug, I used the air gage connection to add a tee.

Thomas Industries T-635HD is a quiet running (69-decibel) 3/4 HP compressor that is both portable and versatile. Other uses include, tire inflating, painting, airbrushing, small air tools, and winterizing water lines and RV's.
found in T-635HD's reviews: kinda load - Thomas has good tech support - Received as expected, actually a day early thanks Amazon, the compressor is very well packed for shipping. Upon set-up and adding a regulator, all seems fine -but it is much much louder then expected, it seems to have blown the pressure switch after 4.5 hours, it will not hold air. I'm now trying to get a reply from Thomas on where to take it or send it back for repair,I would like to resolve this as the compresser is a great size for one gun use. Light weight professional grade compressor for small jobs - I was looking for a portable and not overly loud aircompressor, for my low air-volume tools. I had a 4-gallon pancake compressor for several years, but at 70 lbs. Although it hardly qualifies as "quiet", it isn't nearly as noisy as other compressors I've heard. I installed a 16" stainless steel braided faucet plumbing hose on the compressor's air-outlet port; routed the hose out the back under the motor support, and screwed on a quick disconnect coupling. First thing that gets plugged into the quick-disconnect is a regulator, since none comes with the unit. Because the tank is only 2 gallons (to keep weight/bulk down), the pump comes on more often than on larger units, but when it does, it's only on for about 12 seconds (if you're not using air). Translation: the compressor can be used continuously, without letup. Some compressors have only a 50% duty cycle, which means you shouldn't run it more than 30 minutes for every hour used, as that could cause excessive wear on the pump and/or motor.
You'd want a bigger unit if you had two roofing or stud-nailers going, but for low-air-volume requirements such as trim work, this little Thomas unit is just about perfect.
September 2006 update:
While working on a home renovation project, the compressor's low air pressure switch clicked, but the motor didn't start. By the time I got to the compressor, the motor was smoking, literally.

found in VT6290's description:From the Manufacturer
The VT6290, 2 Running HP, wired for household current delivers enough air power to tackle tough jobs. The twin cylinder, oil lubricated, cast iron single stage pump runs quieter - so the compressor can be used in the same area that the work is taking place. Solid cast iron units are up to 35% quieter than aluminum units with cast iron cylinder sleeves, and dramatically quieter than direct drive aluminum compressors. These compressors are made in the US with a 3 year warranty.

SINGLE STAGE AIRCOMPRESSOR. Single Stage Cast Iron Compressor5 HP Peak, 20 Gallon.
found in VT6290's reviews: Might work if received undamaged.......and with oil...and a few fixes - The shipping box is flimsy and cannot adequately support nor protect the compressor and parts. Mine arrived with a broken regulator, pressure gauge and air-filter assembly all of which apparently snapped off during shipment with no visible exterior box damage.
As the other reviewer also mentioned the compressor does NOT come with oil so be sure to have SAE30 air-compressor oil ready when it arrives. Also, you will need to provide your choice of air outlet connector.
If it wasn't for the bad shipment packaging I'd say initially that the compressor is a good buy but if Campbell Hausfeld has so little regard to protecting their product in shipment to you I question the integrity of the machine itself.
UPDATE 7/15: I am updating this review a full day after receiving and can add more to the trials and tribulations of purchasing a C-H compressor.
I was able to replace the broken regulator and gauge with a Home Depot Husky replacment for $17. The airfilter assembly is currently taped but working until I can get a replacment. All in all if you include travel time to Home Depot nearly 2-1/2 hours were spent just getting the compressor to work only to discover that there is a leak at weld where the pump mount attaches to the tank.) if using an extension cable as this compressor does draw a load when starting.
IMHO I wouldn't order a product like this if you need it for an immediate job as it will take to either repair yourself or to return and await a replacement. I needed this compressor to replace my dead one and ordered it to coincide with my time at home as I could not expect my wife to unload it. VT6290 and FedEx - The box was busted on one side causing some of the content to spill outside (a tire and airfilter). On top of that, FedEx delivered the box upside down, causing the discharge tube to bend, the airfilter to separate from the pump, a busted pressure gauge and a bent handle bar. The compressor DOES NOT include oil. The airfilter supplied causes the compressor to be kind of noisy. When I removed the filter, the noise level drops a few dbs.
Except for the awful FedEx delivery, I am happy with the compressor. Free delivery, free air hose, no tax, and 10% off.

An aircompressor isn't one of those must-have tools for the homeowner-that is, until you've used one. The HL5501 has plenty of power for a stapler or nailer; imagine how quickly a chair rail could go up. Because it's a smaller unit, its air delivery is lower, so make sure you check the air requirements of the tools you intend to use it with.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste
From the Manufacturer
Ideal for inflating balls and tires, nailing fences, stapling protective wrap, and more, this 8-gallon aircompressor offers a whole new world of around-the-house convenience. A handle and wheels make this compressor highly portable for doing jobs in the basement, on the roof, and in the yard. You'll get those occasional home repair jobs done more quickly and with less expensive with this Campbell Hausfeld compressor and air tools.
Compared to electric power tools, Campbell Hausfeld air tools save you both time and money. The initial cost of an air tool is significantly lower than its electrically powered counterpart, and the average life is longer. Air tools also deliver more torque and higher revolutions-per-minute than electric tools, helping you complete your jobs more quickly and effectively.

Product Description
8 Gallon, 15A Cast Iron AirCompressor, Oil Lube Pump With 2.
found in HL5501's reviews: Good lightweight compressor - Twelve pairs of pintle hinges, each leg 2"x 3/16"x 20", took a long, long time.
Which brings me to my first complaint: during that job, a couple of the fittings under the protective plastic shield vibrated loose and leaked enough air that the compressor couldn't reach shut-off pressure. Using the nailer at 100psi, the compressor cycled fairly regularly, but could keep up with the nailer without any trouble.
Noisy? Yes, but so is every other aircompressor I've ever heard, and it cycles fast enough that for occasional use it's tolerable.
My only real problem with the HL5501, other than fittings that come loose, is that the air outlet comes off the side of the manifold in such a way that by the time you've attached a water filter and a female quick-disconnect fitting, there's quite a bit of potential leverage hanging out there unprotected. I'm always worried about hitting it, or pulling the air hose too hard, or doing some such thing that bends the manifold, or tweaks the regulator, or busts the water filter. Make sure to site it so that that air outlet is protected.

found in CPLDC2540P's reviews: Design flaws - First one of these I received came out of the box damaged beyond repair. Switch was broke, regulator fitting broken off flush with the tank, tabs on the compressor that the shroud connects to were broken off from the compressor. After about 2 hours of use (with me that translates to about 3 months) one of the tabs on the compressor that connects to the shroud has broken off. I have not moved the compressor since the day I took it from its box. It's a bit loud but not as loud as some of the "oil free" compressors are.
