found in EC12's reviews: Shipping Problems - I was amazed how little packing/protection is provided in the box for the compressor. I opened the box and was rewared with a lot of little plastic pieces that once were the air filter assembly. Since there does not appear to be a way for replacement parts to be sent to me, I will return the compressor without use. A good little workhorse - Puts out enough air to keep two framing nailguns running at full speed.
I find that I am using the big shop compressor much less - it's just so easy to plug in the handy little Hitachi for everything. As the Hitachi uses an odd-sized thread for their gauges you have to either replace them with another (relatively expensive at $17 or so and weak plastic ) Hitachi gauge or replace the regulator and add a new gauge (costs a little more but most replacement regulators are better made than the original costs maybe $21 with a better gauge).

found in C3551's reviews: Porter Cable lacks quality control - After following the breaking procedure, I noticed that the regulator wouldn't let out any air. (Also, the compressor being so quiet won me over and I was willing to overlook few minor problems in order to keep it. I will receiving a replacementcompressor tomorrow and I will post how that worked out, at that point I will be adjusting my rating for the product.
I finally received a replacement and everthing worked well. Great compressor for the size - After owning a craftsman 4gal unit, and have it malfunction on the first use (relief valve stuck open, not letting pressure build) and returning it, I looked into a better replacement. Performs to expectations - I called Porter Cable, and they are sending me a replacement guage. I specifically wanted an oil lube compressor for durability, and this model fits that requirement. For handyman work or specialty trim nailing, this compressor is ideal. Good idea, but a bit more durabilty would be nice - I've been using this compressor for about 2 years of daily remodeling work in Colorado in all weather conditions. I bought it because I was tired of lugging around other compressors that didn't have wheels. The rolling design of this compressor is very good because it can easily go up and down stairs as well as over typical construction site obstacles.
After a few months of use the tank pressure gauge failed, and Porter Cable sent me a replacement.
After a year of use the motor kept tripping breakers, so I took the compressor in for service and it received a new compressor and motor.
I work on job sites that have ancient compressors that continue to function flawlessly (but they're really heavy to move around), so I'm a bit worried by the problems I've noticed in only 2 years of use.
Because this compressor is oil lubricated, it does get sluggish in the winter. It also cannot supply as much air as the oil-free version. A trim subcontractor I know has the oil-free version and he has to rebuild his compressor annually with a $40 repair kit, so oil free isn't entirely without issues.
If you already have a compressor you like, I'd bolt some good wheels onto it and weld a nice handle onto the frame.

Portable, electric powered compressor with 3 HP, high output, heavy-duty induction motor.
found in CWC200ST's reviews: Compressor head is OK but the extra parts are of low quality - I bought one of these compressors a couple of months ago after doing carefull research and actually going to a repair facility here in AZ that handles warranty repairs for a variety of brands. I estimate that the compressor has about 15 (fifteen) hours of use by now. You will have to tilt the compressor down and rock it side to side to get the water out, furthermore when tilted the lower drain hits the floor impedig drainage so you actually have to lift this rather heavy machine and tilt it and rockit at the same time in order to drain. Shortly after purchasing the unit one of the Quick Disconnects on the compressor will not seal itself after the hose is taken off and will merily leak all the air out in about one minute, I had to replace that so I could use the machine. For about the last five hours of use I started to notice that if left pressurized overnight the air was gone in the morning upon closer inspection I could hear a faint hiss comming from somewhere behind the regulator It was not much just enough to leak and turn the machine on about every 15 minutes even if I did not use air. Yesterday the manual regulator prooved to be the culprit as when I started the compressor for the first time it would not hold air at all. I put my head next to it to listen for the noise of air escaping and sure enough there was a faint hisssss. While I was trying to figure out where the noise is caming from The back of the manual regulator popped loose again suddenly letting all the air escape in an instant startling me and prompting my wife to ask from the kitchen some ways away: "did you do that on purpose?" Well NO. The machine is unusable untill I get a replacement hopefully of beter quality. Overall the tech was right the actuall compressor is well done I believe he said it was Italian made the rest is rather sloppy and not thought out well.

An aircompressor isn't one of those must-have tools for the homeowner-that is, until you've used one. The HL5501 has plenty of power for a stapler or nailer; imagine how quickly a chair rail could go up. Because it's a smaller unit, its air delivery is lower, so make sure you check the air requirements of the tools you intend to use it with.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Product Description
8 Gallon, 15A Cast Iron AirCompressor, Oil Lube Pump With 2.
found in HL5501's reviews: Sturdy, portable, cheap oil-lubricated compressor... But noisy! -
Let me start by saying that I can't live without an aircompressor. Those of you who don't have one have no idea how much you'll use it and what an integral part of any household project or repair it will become when you finally have one. That being said, let me explain why I bought this particular compressor and what I think about it thus far.
Until recently, I had an 8-gallon oil-free compressor that was handed down to me from my dad after I bought him a large stationary garage unit about 6 years ago. This thing lasted about 13 years with very regular use with a few repairs over the years. This is absolutely unheard of with an oil-free compressor. In order to replace the blue tarp roof provided by FEMA with some actual shingles, I will need a compressor to power my roofing and framing nailers. Portability and reliability are important factors in order to assist with the reconstruction efforts of the community once the repairs to my home are complete. This is why I decided on an oil-lubricated compressor. Although I had great success with the aforementioned oil-free compressor, I do understand that this was more the exception than the rule. It is hard to find an oil-lubed compressor that is both portable and affordable., making them very difficult to get in and out of your truck/car by yourself, let alone getting them up a flight of stairs. This compressor does not come with oil, even though the instruction manual says "only use the oil that was shipped with the compressor." The other thing that you will run into is that it does not come with a coupler to connect an air hose to. Although this is very common for air tools not to come with the required fittings to connect it to a hose, there is one difference here. I have never seen a quick-disconnect air hose connector (the hose end that has the sleeve to release the connection) with male threads on it. (a brass pipe nipple for you plumbers out there)
Use: The Campbell Hausfeld HL5501 overall seems to be a very good compressor. If you are looking into this compressor because of the reduced noise level that oil-lubed compressors are known for, then you will be disappointed. This compressor is every bit as loud as any comparable oil-free unit. Maybe this is because it is direct-drive and runs at a higher RPM (as apposed to belt-driven models), but at least you don't have to worry about replacing the belt.
Conclusion: I would recommend this compressor to the handy home user that wants the reliability and longevity of an oil-lube compressor, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. I would not recommend this compressor if the noise level is a big issue, but be prepared to spend a lot more money for a belt-driven unit. nice unit - THE REASON I DIDN'T RATE IT FIVE IS I AM STILL WAITING FOR A REPLACEMENT GAUGE, AND I THINK THEY SHOULD INCLUDE THE NECESSARY OIL WITH THE COMPRESSOR.

CAP2560OL 2.5HP (Peak) oil-lubricated contractor compressor N80 Stick Framing Nailer
found in U-CPACKN80's reviews: Poor shipping procedures--TWICE! - I ordered this compressor and framing nailer for a shop I was building. Finally the box arrived-late-I had to borrow some air tools. The compressor had no oil in it. It had obviously been turned on it's side and it leaked out over everything-compressor and nailgun. I went to the Amazon site and asked for a replacement which they sent overnight delivery. The airgun I borrowed was a Bostich, and it worked extremely well.

found in CPF23400P's reviews: Maybe a good compressor, but beware of shipping - I ordered my P-C 3HP/4GAL compressor from Amazon, and their tool supplier, Tool Crib, shipped the unit to me via UPS. When I unpacked the compressor there was a broken piece of plastic in the bottom of the box.
I took the compressor to the local Porter-Cable service center and they tell me the boxes the P-C compressors come in are NOT designed to handle the rigorous treatment of UPS shipping. The compressor is very heavy and the support inside the box is just flimsy cardboard, so the unit will shift alot during UPS shipment. Won't know until the replacement part comes in and we can turn the unit on. It's been two weeks now and the replacement switch unit still has not arrived.
Be advised about this shipping problem with this compressor. A good compressor to get you started. - I shopped extensively for a light duty compressor based on the following criteria: price, weight, and flow rating. It features the same motor and compressor as the PC 3HP twin stack model but is $40 cheaper and about 10 pounds lighter.
Other than that what can I say - it pumps air. It is fairly loud, but I haven't listened to many other models to make an educated comparison. I have used it quite a bit for high air flow operations, such as blowing off dust / debris and even running an air chisel to bust up concrete. It often runs full time for 5-10 minutes and is able to keep up with air demand. If you are going to be regularly moving the compressor around, spend the extra. I actually ran a compressed air line out to my garage, so the compressor can stay put in the basement and avoid potential damage from moving it.
*** 4-year update ***
I have owned this compressor for 4+ years now and am still completely satisfied. I was able to obtain a replacement direct from PC, for less than $20, which I thought was pretty reasonable. I used a hand held, air chisel to break up the mortar joints. The compressor was operating at 100% duty cycle for 10-15 minutes at a stretch, but couldn't quite keep up with continuous use of the air chisel. As an last ditch experiment, I bought a 10 gal portable air storage tank, some extra quick disconnect fittings and rigged up a reserve tank in parallel with the 4 gallon PC tank. (yes, I am an engineer) My thinking was that I would run the crap out of my little PC and if it bit the dust, that was my excuse to buy a new compressor. I am amazed to say the PC compressor ran flawlessly for the entire chimney demo and still works fine today.

found in AM780-HC4V's reviews: Great But ... - I have several compressors, but since this is light and runs on 15 am circuits it is the preference for small volume needs such as small nail guns, tires and especially jobs where transporting the compressor is required. Example, a framer and helper will easily outrun the production capability of the compressor with one gun. On a hot day with poor air circulation the motor start capacitor blew. Since this was the only issue with the tool I decided it made sense to repair. My standard motor repair shop wouldn't touch it. The Emglo repair center wanted an exhorbitant amount for the capacitor ($$). The time I spent calling around and shopping for the replacement part far exceeded the value of simply replacing the compressor unit. Expect a few years of use and then replacement when the first major component fails.

I'd recommend this compressor and framing gun to any DIY person. Also, A+ service from Amazon on handling my damaged product and having a replacement to me in such a fast time.
