Oil ? - I have had this compressor for a couple of years now, never had a problem with it so far. It mainly sits in my hobby shop in the basement and occasionally gets hauled out of the house to do a few small textone jobs for people. I would say it's not exactly the lightest portable compressor out there, and most of the time I wish it had wheels. I have another larger more stationary compressor that is a different brand that gets used more out in the main shop. There are a few minor flaws that could be fixed relatively easily with this compressor. The air filter sticks out of the cage a little too far, looks like it's prone to bumps. And last but not least, the control panel, nice easy access and readability, and I like the dual air outlets, but they stick out of the roll cage after you install a pair of female couplers.

Rugged, top load magazine for easy reloading
Depth-of-drive adjustment to match nail depth to the application
Quick release nosepiece for easy clearing of jams

found in CFFN250A's reviews:
Should have bought this combo pack years ago! - The compressor is a bit noisy so if you're in a small space you will want to invest in some earplugs otherwise it's tolerable for a basic 2hp pancake compressor. The nailer itself what else can one say it's a Porter Cable light, adjustable and powerful! I am already looking at my next nailer the FC350 framing nailer!

Don't hesitate in making this a must have purchase for your shop!.

Something Different Inside - A slight tug on your air hose is enough to send it rolling. I'll tell you about that one on that review.
Good Quality, Great Service - There are a lot of pancake compressors on the market, but this one stands out for two reasons. If you're *anywhere* near a medium sized or larger city, spare parts and repair are just a phone call away.

For the remodeler working alone, or the handman looking for a small compressor for the shop, this machine is an excellent chice.
Great machine - 8 Oct 02

I read every review I can find on a tool before buying and did so in this case. The problem was, there were a couple `for' and a couple `against' this compressor which didn't help in the decision process (usually there's enough positive or negative comments to aid in making a decision). If you want to ensure you don't have this problem, buy a compressor with a cage around it. Heck what do you want from a COMPRESSOR!

- Plenty of air to shoot my 15ga nails and recovery time on the tank is VERY quick.
A good compressor to get you started. - I shopped extensively for a light duty compressor based on the following criteria: price, weight, and flow rating. It features the same motor and compressor as the PC 3HP twin stack model but is $40 cheaper and about 10 pounds lighter.

Other than that what can I say - it pumps air. It is fairly loud, but I haven't listened to many other models to make an educated comparison. But that's another review. I have used it quite a bit for high air flow operations, such as blowing off dust / debris and even running an air chisel to bust up concrete. It often runs full time for 5-10 minutes and is able to keep up with air demand. If you are going to be regularly moving the compressor around, spend the extra. I actually ran a compressed air line out to my garage, so the compressor can stay put in the basement and avoid potential damage from moving it.

*** 4-year update ***

I have owned this compressor for 4+ years now and am still completely satisfied. I used a hand held, air chisel to break up the mortar joints. The compressor was operating at 100% duty cycle for 10-15 minutes at a stretch, but couldn't quite keep up with continuous use of the air chisel. As an last ditch experiment, I bought a 10 gal portable air storage tank, some extra quick disconnect fittings and rigged up a reserve tank in parallel with the 4 gallon PC tank. (yes, I am an engineer) My thinking was that I would run the crap out of my little PC and if it bit the dust, that was my excuse to buy a new compressor. I am amazed to say the PC compressor ran flawlessly for the entire chimney demo and still works fine today.

Very good - with provisos - Just received my M990 compressor after my local small engine repair shop recommended it over others. Plenty of power, great pressure and set up for two air hoses right out of the box. provided excellent assistance, bottom line however is that it needed to go to the local repair shop for warranty work.

The compressor I've aways wanted. - I have been looking for a small compressor for my home shop and after an exhastive search I have found it. So far the compressor has exceeded my expectations.
Great But ... - I have several compressors, but since this is light and runs on 15 am circuits it is the preference for small volume needs such as small nail guns, tires and especially jobs where transporting the compressor is required. Example, a framer and helper will easily outrun the production capability of the compressor with one gun. On a hot day with poor air circulation the motor start capacitor blew. Since this was the only issue with the tool I decided it made sense to repair. My standard motor repair shop wouldn't touch it. The Emglo repair center wanted an exhorbitant amount for the capacitor ($$). The time I spent calling around and shopping for the replacement part far exceeded the value of simply replacing the compressor unit.
1.5 HP, 2-1/2 Gallon, "Hot Dog" Oil-less Air Compressor | Makita MAC500
Makita MAC500
$346.00
by Makita

Starts easily under low voltage conditions
Built-in thermal overload protection for added safety
Dynamically balanced counterweight crankshaft design for reduced vibration
Durable cast aluminum components for lighter weight and faster heat dissipation
Designed especially for finish work

found in MAC500's reviews:
A great portable for small jobs - It keeps up fine for this type of work and is not designed for high volume usage (spray painting, sandblasting, etc) As a blow tool for clearing sawdust in the shop, it struggles to keep up. I agree with other reviews.as other reviewers have noted it's easily damaged if mistreated.

Even with these drawbacks its a great little compressor for finish carpentry. I've got the new MAC2400 on order for the shop for those higher volume needs, but I plan on keeping the MAC500 due to its small size, light weight and extreme portability.

Porter Cable Compressor Review - My compressor arrived about 7 days after I placed my order. Keep in mind that your compressor does'nt include a hose, fittings, or a filter which is a good idea to extend the life of your air tools and a must to spray paint, so these items must be purchased seperatly. It's not too loud, it can fill up fairly quick, and most of all it provided plenty of power for what I was using it for, even when using a 100 foot extension cord.
Great General Purpose Portable Compressor - I bought this compressor to run nail guns, air sand and spray paint. (I always unplug everything before leaving my shop. It is also handy to limit the pressure to safe levels for your various air tools. I wired my shop area with 12/3 to carry enough current for power tools. It is not as loud as large upright compressors, but it does make a fair amount of noise, although not as much as I expected. I use it with a Souix air sander and it does run longer when I am working. If you take on a tractor trailer, get a bigger compressor. It will be a great addition to your shop.
Heavy Duty versatility - First off I am a homeowner, not a contractor and have been using this compressor in my house to do renovation trim work for over two years.
It is a fantastic compressor for my purposes. I run one in to my garage for airing my tires, and one in the shop for projects.
When I move the compressor in to a room I am renovating, the two outlets also let me have two tools going at the same time, i.
I will tell you it is LOUD but so are all compressors in this class, and this one is not as loud as my last old Campbell-Hausfeld. So if you are planning on moving your compressor around a lot, this is the WRONG compressor for you.
But if you want a relatively stationary compressor with greater than ordinary capabilities, you may agree this is the ticket.

Quiet, powerful with a manageable size! - I have a small shop (our two car garage) and I am very sensitive to noise. So, you can guess, that my two top priorities were a quiet unit that I could operate in the shop while I was working, yet powerful enough to drive my wide range of pneumatic tools. If you have the same requirements, you are reading about your dream compressor. I have placed it in my shop under a table that I do most of my assembly and work. I just love this compressor!.
Great Compressor for Average Woodworker - I held off on this review because a had to get a replacement.
Great Compressor!! - I use this compressor in a wood shop and it provides enough air pressure for all my needs. The output pressure valve is convenient and easy to use so you don't have to spend a lot of time trying to set the proper air pressure for the tool you are using. All in all, this is a great compressor that can handle a large variety of jobs.
