Makita MAC700 -nice little compressor - I almost didn't order this compressor after reading all the reviews about shipping damage, but mine arrived in perfect shape. My old pancake compressor finally died. It is resonably portable and very very quiet for a compressor. As noted in other reviews, it is a little top heavy and can fall over if just put in the back of your truck. Very efficient Compressor - After reading some reviews here on Amazon.com, I decided to purchase "The Hot Dog" compressor. When I received the packgae, the compressor had oil over it leaked from the bottle supplied with it. One thing I would like with the compressor is a package of some hose connectros and adapters. Very Good Product - Received compressor with great aprehension due to the negative reviews on the shipping "damges". Misleading specs - I purchased this compressor because of the many good reviews and many mentioned it's not heavy. However, when I tried to carry the compressor which was specified as being 30# it seemed heavier than that. In fact it weighed more than my 5 gal pancake compressor. Did Makita alter the compressor in some way that added 20# to it?. Received Item, but can't use it yet. - Based on other reviews, I'd have probably agreed and given this item 5 stars. Another Damaged compressor - both the shroud and the unloading valve were broken (see other reviews) with no apparent damage to the shipping box. Damaged Goods - After reading the previous negative reviews which I thought were anomolies, I received the unit and much to my dismay. The black plastic engine housing was cracked but remained in place, the air/condensation release valve at the base of the tank was broken off at the tank !?#%#! After a little hand work I removed what remained of the fitting, reversed and reinstalled the valve. After repairs (seems odd to repair a brand new machine) it seems to run great, no oil or air leaks. Great compressor, but check the box thouroughly before signing for delivery! - After working with a friend's older version of this compressor for the last eight months, I decided to splurge and get my own. If this compressor is anything like the older model, it's going to last forever. One thing - I had read the other reviews that mentioned shipping damage and hoped for the best. It looks like someone must've dropped it, and from a pretty good height! One of the legs was bent about 2 inches, so the compressor would rock when set down. Fortunately, the compressor itself (external tubes and gauges and whatnot) are all fine. It's annoying, but I don't want to go through the exchange process and be without air for another two weeks. The startup process is fairly simple. There are two plastic plugs on the compressor that need to come out. One covers the oil filler, and one covers the air intake port. You replace the plug on the air intake port (topmost plug) with the included air filter, and you replace the oil filler plug with the included oil cap. Then, open the air release valve at the very bottom of the air tank and run the compressor for 20 minutes. Check the oil level periodically, of course! On a related note, I also bought the Campbell Hausfeld MP520010AV air tool accessory kit to get me started. Quiet, Solid, Well Made - After all the reviews that complained about shipping damage, I was pleased when mine arrived in perfect condition. I wanted a portable compressor for using my nail guns at old houses, and was ready to replace my antique mastodon shop compressor. I was thinking I may have to buy two compressors, most portable units were too loud for the shop. A few weeks ago I bought a Ridgid brand "oil-free" compressor at Home Depot but it was so loud that I couldn't use it indoors, even covered with a chunk of old carpet. It had good air flow.3 CFM is higher than many of the 75-pound twin stack compressors I saw. To reduce cycling in the shop, I attached my 5-gallon air tank (the kind you use for putting air in a flat tire) to the tank side of the regulator with a T and snap coupler.like don't use the compressor in the bathtub. It's a large, high quality compressor mounted on a small, portable tank. You'll get really spoiled if you're used to a noisy oil-less compressor. |

Excellent performer! - I decided on the MAC2400 because of the reviews I read and Makita's reputation. The other Reviews are Correct, this is a great compressor - I do not want to repeat what all the other reviews have said. This is a quality compressor. In this day and age of plastic junk, I am surprised some of the reviews complained about wieght. The compressor is just as quiet as others report. Why did I get this compressor? In sum, (1) I wanted a GOOD quality tool that was not Chineese junk, (2) I wanted at least 4 cfm for tools and (2) I did not want to spend a fortune. There seems to be several classes or levels of compressor in the lower price range. Unless you are getting a specialized mini-compressor just for a small brad gun, the $125-175 compressors are mostly junk: loud and rough. This Makita is in the next step up, with compressors in the $225 to 325 range. Most of this second tier are either made for just for job sites or are just bigger cheaply made compressors. The Dewalt is an excellent compressor, but you cannot use it next to you in an exclosed shop -- its too loud. It is a very well made little compressor. The compressor seems to live up to its specs. When I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate. I have not owned a compressor is many years. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor. I'll let you know when I get a chance to use it! - After reading 45 reviews, most of which described the unit arriving damaged in one way or another, it would have been wise on my part to find a source for this compressor where I could pick it up. Great Compressor - After doing alot of research I settled on this Makita- I have to say the reviews are right- its quiet, and yes heavy, but you can feel and hear the quality in this machine. I had bought a craftsman compressor and returned it because it was a piece of junk, and came out of the box dirty and didn't work- I'm guessing it was a refurb. No problem with shipping - Compressor shipped promptly by Amazon in factory box. No external damage to box, no damage to compressor. Maybe the box packing has changed since earlier reviews? Great unit, well made, very quiet compared to the competition. Heavy but that will be solved with adding a dolly to hold the compressor and an added hose reel. For what it's worth, this compressor was made in Taiwan, not Mexico as is the case for some of the competitors. Very Good Compressor - This compressor is everything that the reviews said. It is the perfect compressor for home use. It is some what limited on the amount of air you can use at one time. Solid and Quite, but not packaged to be shipped upside down . . . - Bought this compressor based on Amazon reviews declaring its solid construction and quiet operation. Also, the unit is clearly packaged to survice shipment on a pallet, where it will stay right side up! Mine obviously spent some time on its head in the UPS truck, with the air filter housing digging into the pretty face plate. Perfect compressor - quiet & powerful - I needed a compressor to put up a fence, install mouldings and refinish my basement. I've read other reviews that speak to the weight of this unit. Well, it's a compressor and they ARE heavy. Especially a high-quality compressor like this one. Additional comments: The finned discharge tubing on this thing is fantastic - if you've never had your hand seared like a steak after touching discharge tubing on a compressor, you haven't truly felt pain. I can use the compressor in my basement shop and can barely hear it running on the main level. If you're looking for a high-quality, oil-lube (don't know why anyone would go for a non-oil unit) compressor that will last for years, look no further. |

Was somewhat confused by Step 1 - open the "air receiver's drain value". What the %^*& is a air receiver's drain value??? I know what the Drain Valve or Cock at the bottom of the tank is - but was I missing something? A fast call to Makita's service center confirmed to open drain valve on tank for the no-load break in. I think I'll be very pleased with this compressor if everything remains as positive as the initial impressions. The actual tires are not plastic as I thought from reading some reviews. |

I have given this unit a 5 star rating and this is my third compressor that I've owned over past years. In one of the earlier reviews a mention was made about the flat protective cover plate that caps out the top of the unit. I'm going to modify my Job Boss with a Jet 3/8"x50' air hose reel bolted right on top of that cover plate and not only eleminate some of the mess with air lines snaking all over the floor but should also keep anyone from standing on that plate. You can find air hose reels in Amazon's Tool Crib listings. Was pleased the second time - After reading other reviews though, it was almost to be expected.
