I guess thats one way they can cut costs. It also does not come with a quick connect fitting at the output end, but rather has female threads that you screw an air hose into. I saw this compressor for 139. The manual is not very well written at all, so take your time and read it over a couple of times! When you get this compressor, you will have to go out and buy; 1 bottle of mobile one synthetic motor oil(10w30)for abot 5 dollars, a 1/4 inch fitting and quick connect(about 12 dollars). Now you are ready to plug in a hose and air tools.I am extremely happy with this compressor-it really isn't any noisier than other compressors in this price range-lets face it-compressors are a power tool and thus are loud!I did not find the noise that bad at all. My total investment to get this up and running was still less than 200 dollars which is not bad for an oil lubed compressor. |

My compressor arrived in its thick cardboard box with two of the mounting tabs for the shroud broken off the cast metal main housing and the plastic fan broken in half. Needing the unit that week I decided to use epoxy (J-B weld) to attach the mounting tabs back onto the metal body and to order a new fan (under warranty) from the P/C service center (very helpful)here in Columbus. Once repaired I must say that I have not had a problem with its operation. Average noise and vibration and my repairs have not rebroken. |

Second, the Porter Cable service organization. If you're *anywhere* near a medium sized or larger city, spare parts and repair are just a phone call away. For the remodeler working alone, or the handman looking for a small compressor for the shop, this machine is an excellent chice. I took the compressor to the local Porter-Cable service center and they tell me the boxes the P-C compressors come in are NOT designed to handle the rigorous treatment of UPS shipping. The compressor is very heavy and the support inside the box is just flimsy cardboard, so the unit will shift alot during UPS shipment. Be advised about this shipping problem with this compressor. Tool Crib should know better than to ship these heavy units in flimsy boxes! Luckily the local Porter-Cable service center is willing to fix it under warranty!. |
