Whether you need a compressor for woodworking, painting, caulking or construction, this 5-gallon Makita is a great choice, primarily because of its impressive 6-1/2 cfm at 90 psi on a 13. Built-in Storage Compartment - Conveniently stores air fittings & accessories. Air Hose Wrap - Stores 50 of 3/8" Air Hose with handle folded or upright. Tool Hangers - Stores tools when not in use. Large automotive style industrial air filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency.
found in MAC5200's reviews: This is a good machine - The compressor is awesome. I also used a cheapo cutting wheel with it, and it actually had enough capacity to do a larger cut, and kept going pretty well when the compressor kicked on. If you CAN'T replace them yourself, you probably shouldn't be buying a tool like this anyway. At the price I got it at, including shipping, I'm not going to write off the tool because I had to spend $10 to upgrade it. Makita, besides the wheels, the one cool thing that I would like to see on this tool is a hose reel. POOR PERFORMER PERIOD! - I have been a carpenter for 15 years and have used alot of different compressors. This compressor is far to heavy and loud for the performance it puts out. I have alot of makita tools I am happy with, but this is poorly designed and built tool. Hunk of Junk - I figured with the Makita name, I would be buying a quality tool.

An aircompressor isn't one of those must-have tools for the homeowner-that is, until you've used one. The HL5501 has plenty of power for a stapler or nailer; imagine how quickly a chair rail could go up. Because it's a smaller unit, its air delivery is lower, so make sure you check the air requirements of the tools you intend to use it with.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

found in HL5501's reviews: Good lightweight compressor - Twelve pairs of pintle hinges, each leg 2"x 3/16"x 20", took a long, long time.
Which brings me to my first complaint: during that job, a couple of the fittings under the protective plastic shield vibrated loose and leaked enough air that the compressor couldn't reach shut-off pressure. Using the nailer at 100psi, the compressor cycled fairly regularly, but could keep up with the nailer without any trouble.
The next tool I have in mind to attach is the Critter spray paint rig.
Noisy? Yes, but so is every other aircompressor I've ever heard, and it cycles fast enough that for occasional use it's tolerable.
My only real problem with the HL5501, other than fittings that come loose, is that the air outlet comes off the side of the manifold in such a way that by the time you've attached a water filter and a female quick-disconnect fitting, there's quite a bit of potential leverage hanging out there unprotected. I'm always worried about hitting it, or pulling the air hose too hard, or doing some such thing that bends the manifold, or tweaks the regulator, or busts the water filter. Make sure to site it so that that air outlet is protected.

found in CPFC2TV3525VP's reviews: Quiet, portable and powerful - I shopped around for weeks before I decided on this compressor. I wanted a compressor for home that I could run an impact on or a DA sander but I also wanted something portable that I could run a nailer on. I had planned to buy two compressors but this compressor will do both. This compressor is surprisingly quiet and is quite powerful. The two stage allows it to provide the power of a compressor twice it's capacity and uses twice the horsepower.) So if you're buying one for home or stationary use that will be run a lot, look at buying a 2-stage 240 volt compressor, it will save you money when the electric bill comes. Recovery time is what you should look for and don't expect any compressor to keep quiet for long when you're running a continuous tool like a sander. Something to consider if you're serious about buying this compressor is look at the CPFC2TV3520WK, it's the same compressor with a 20 gallon horizontal tank but it has a four port remote regulator which might be of use or interest to you. I'll post again in the future once I've used the compressor more and know it a little better. I would recommend renting a compressor or borrowing one from someone who has it prior to making your decision if you haven't used them enough to know what you want from one. Something to keep in mind when buying any tool is to ask people who use them everyday, which one would they personally buy.

First, the compressor: The unit blasts out an impressive 150 maximum psi for driving more nails than traditional 135 psi compressors. Running on standard household current, this 120-volt electric compressor also cranks out 2.6 standard cubic feet per minute at 90 psi for quick compressor recovery time and faster nailing. Weighing just 34 pounds, the compressor is easy to transport from project to project. And, two quick-connect couplers let the compressor power two nail guns to at the same time. A tool-free, jam release mechanism doesnt block the line of sight for uninterrupted work. Olson

found in C3551's reviews: The Wheels! - I have given this unit a 5 star rating and this is my third compressor that I've owned over past years. That is my only problem with what I think is a very nice tool. I'm going to modify my Job Boss with a Jet 3/8"x50' air hose reel bolted right on top of that cover plate and not only eleminate some of the mess with air lines snaking all over the floor but should also keep anyone from standing on that plate. You can find air hose reels in Amazon's Tool Crib listings.

found in MAC700's reviews: no shipping problems here - Is a little heavy at around 50 lbs, but it is a well made tool and feels like it. Great compressor, but check the box thouroughly before signing for delivery! - After working with a friend's older version of this compressor for the last eight months, I decided to splurge and get my own. If this compressor is anything like the older model, it's going to last forever. It looks like someone must've dropped it, and from a pretty good height! One of the legs was bent about 2 inches, so the compressor would rock when set down. Fortunately, the compressor itself (external tubes and gauges and whatnot) are all fine. It's annoying, but I don't want to go through the exchange process and be without air for another two weeks.
The startup process is fairly simple. There are two plastic plugs on the compressor that need to come out. One covers the oil filler, and one covers the air intake port. You replace the plug on the air intake port (topmost plug) with the included air filter, and you replace the oil filler plug with the included oil cap. Then, open the air release valve at the very bottom of the air tank and run the compressor for 20 minutes. Check the oil level periodically, of course!
On a related note, I also bought the Campbell Hausfeld MP520010AV airtool accessory kit to get me started.

found in MAC2400's reviews: The other Reviews are Correct, this is a great compressor - This is a quality compressor.
The compressor is just as quiet as others report.
Why did I get this compressor? In sum, (1) I wanted a GOOD quality tool that was not Chineese junk, (2) I wanted at least 4 cfm for tools and (2) I did not want to spend a fortune. There seems to be several classes or levels of compressor in the lower price range. Unless you are getting a specialized mini-compressor just for a small brad gun, the $125-175 compressors are mostly junk: loud and rough. This Makita is in the next step up, with compressors in the $225 to 325 range. Most of this second tier are either made for just for job sites or are just bigger cheaply made compressors. The Dewalt is an excellent compressor, but you cannot use it next to you in an exclosed shop -- its too loud.
So, I wanted a quality tool and one that could live in the shop next to me. It is a very well made little compressor.
The compressor seems to live up to its specs. When I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate. SO, you do have to watch the cfm ratings on tools: I am sure a 8 cfm jitterbug sander will not work. But then again, that is not the type of tool I wanted this for.
I have not owned a compressor is many years. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor. A great compressor - Not only is this compressor a great looker, it performs flawlessly. It is the most quiet operating twin stack compressor I have used. I love this tool!. Minnesota Charlie - The compressor arrived in good condition, no damage during shipping. I used it with several airtools like ratchet, impact wrench, stapler, finish nailer, and framing nailer. The air cleaner seems loose and doesn't fit as snugly as it should to the motor. I give the tool 5 stars. A well made , quiet compressor. - I have been using this compressor trimming houses for the last three weeks and I am well pleased with it's performance. I usually run two to three 15 gauge trim guns at a time and this compressor is more than adequate for my needs. The main reason I purchased this compressor over several other brands was the ability to run it off of a 100' 10 gauge extension cord without tripping the breaker, it only draws 12. The added bonus is just how quiet it is, it's way quieter than any other compressor I have used. I DO NOT recommend buying an oil free compressor , I have used several, and just haven't got the life out of them like an oil lube. This is an industrial quality tool that I hope, with proper maintenance, to get several years of service from.

found in CPFAC2600P's reviews: COOL TOOL - Once pneumatic, you never go back - The Porter-Cable 2HP 6-gallon pancake compressor is a reasonably powerful and reasonably portable aircompressor. I only recently purchased one but I am already sold on pneumatic tools, which the PC 6-gallon compressor operates surprisingly well. Although many pneumatic tools, such as air hammers, drills, and sanders, consume quite a bit of air (generally in the neighborhood of 5 CFM at 90 PSI), I have found that my PC compressor does just fine with its modest 2. Unless you need to operate the tools continuously for long periods, the 6-gallon tank provides sufficient ballast to keep them happily buzzing and spinning at full power. My one complaint is that the motor and compressor are a bit louder than I expected. Then again, the noise of the compressor is hardly noticeable above the din of an air hammer, so I'm not sure it really matters.
If you enjoy using power tools and you have not yet experienced the pleasures of pneumatic gizmos, you should consider purchasing a small but serious compressor like the PC 2HP 6-gallon pancake. It's truly amazing how versatile compressed air is; basically any tool that runs on electricity also comes in a pneumatic version (well, except for arc welders). It makes so much sense to have all your tools share one powerful motor instead of replicating motors endlessly; that is, if you can part with your cordless tools.
But be warned! If you take the plunge into pneumatic tools, there is an endless stream of items you will find yourself purchasing: airtool lubricants and cleaning kits, in-line oilers, air hoses and gauges, quick connectors, air filters, oil-water separators, Teflon tape, universal air hose joints, air manifolds, blowguns with assorted nozzles, etc.)
One odd thing I've noticed is that the PC 6-gallon compressor is virtually identical to the Craftsman 6-gallon compressor, right down to the paint job. It's a great way to get acquainted with pneumatic tools.
