The VT6290, 2 Running HP, wired for household current delivers enough air power to tackle tough jobs. The twin cylinder, oil lubricated, cast iron single stage pump runs quieter - so the compressor can be used in the same area that the work is taking place. Solid cast iron units are up to 35% quieter than aluminum units with cast iron cylinder sleeves, and dramatically quieter than direct drive aluminum compressors. These compressors are made in the US with a 3 year warranty.

SINGLE STAGE AIRCOMPRESSOR. Single Stage Cast Iron Compressor5 HP Peak, 20 Gallon.
found in VT6290's reviews: VT6290 and FedEx - The box was busted on one side causing some of the content to spill outside (a tire and air filter). On top of that, FedEx delivered the box upside down, causing the discharge tube to bend, the air filter to separate from the pump, a busted pressure gauge and a bent handle bar.
The kind people at CampbellHausfeld will send me all the damaged parts at no cost to fix it. The compressor DOES NOT include oil. The air filter supplied causes the compressor to be kind of noisy.
Except for the awful FedEx delivery, I am happy with the compressor. Free delivery, free air hose, no tax, and 10% off. Might work if received undamaged.......and with oil...and a few fixes - The shipping box is flimsy and cannot adequately support nor protect the compressor and parts. Mine arrived with a broken regulator, pressure gauge and air-filter assembly all of which apparently snapped off during shipment with no visible exterior box damage.
As the other reviewer also mentioned the compressor does NOT come with oil so be sure to have SAE30 air-compressor oil ready when it arrives. Also, you will need to provide your choice of air outlet connector.
If it wasn't for the bad shipment packaging I'd say initially that the compressor is a good buy but if CampbellHausfeld has so little regard to protecting their product in shipment to you I question the integrity of the machine itself.
UPDATE 7/15: I am updating this review a full day after receiving and can add more to the trials and tribulations of purchasing a C-H compressor. The air filter assembly is currently taped but working until I can get a replacment.
After replacing the parts and turning on to run for the 10 minute break-in period I was plagued with mutliple leaks. All in all if you include travel time to Home Depot nearly 2-1/2 hours were spent just getting the compressor to work only to discover that there is a leak at weld where the pump mount attaches to the tank.) if using an extension cable as this compressor does draw a load when starting.
IMHO I wouldn't order a product like this if you need it for an immediate job as it will take to either repair yourself or to return and await a replacement. I needed this compressor to replace my dead one and ordered it to coincide with my time at home as I could not expect my wife to unload it. I replaced the parts so that I could at least have use during the upcoming week off.
To Amazon: it is just as important for you to insure that your customer will receive a product undamaged and to that end I lay partial blame on you for not checking product quality and packaging.

An aircompressor isn't one of those must-have tools for the homeowner-that is, until you've used one. The HL5501 has plenty of power for a stapler or nailer; imagine how quickly a chair rail could go up. Because it's a smaller unit, its air delivery is lower, so make sure you check the air requirements of the tools you intend to use it with.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Product Description
8 Gallon, 15A Cast Iron AirCompressor, Oil Lube Pump With 2.
found in HL5501's reviews: Sturdy, portable, cheap oil-lubricated compressor... But noisy! -
Let me start by saying that I can't live without an aircompressor. Those of you who don't have one have no idea how much you'll use it and what an integral part of any household project or repair it will become when you finally have one. That being said, let me explain why I bought this particular compressor and what I think about it thus far.
Until recently, I had an 8-gallon oil-free compressor that was handed down to me from my dad after I bought him a large stationary garage unit about 6 years ago. This thing lasted about 13 years with very regular use with a few repairs over the years. This is absolutely unheard of with an oil-free compressor. In order to replace the blue tarp roof provided by FEMA with some actual shingles, I will need a compressor to power my roofing and framing nailers. Portability and reliability are important factors in order to assist with the reconstruction efforts of the community once the repairs to my home are complete. This is why I decided on an oil-lubricated compressor. Although I had great success with the aforementioned oil-free compressor, I do understand that this was more the exception than the rule. It is hard to find an oil-lubed compressor that is both portable and affordable., making them very difficult to get in and out of your truck/car by yourself, let alone getting them up a flight of stairs. Also, the plastic shroud that covers the motor/pump is slightly cracked because it contacts a part underneath it. This compressor does not come with oil, even though the instruction manual says "only use the oil that was shipped with the compressor." The other thing that you will run into is that it does not come with a coupler to connect an air hose to. Although this is very common for air tools not to come with the required fittings to connect it to a hose, there is one difference here. I have never seen a quick-disconnect air hose connector (the hose end that has the sleeve to release the connection) with male threads on it. (a brass pipe nipple for you plumbers out there)
Use: The CampbellHausfeld HL5501 overall seems to be a very good compressor. If you are looking into this compressor because of the reduced noise level that oil-lubed compressors are known for, then you will be disappointed. This compressor is every bit as loud as any comparable oil-free unit.
Conclusion: I would recommend this compressor to the handy home user that wants the reliability and longevity of an oil-lube compressor, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. I would not recommend this compressor if the noise level is a big issue, but be prepared to spend a lot more money for a belt-driven unit.
Accessories are included for convenient use right out of the box. Compressor offers automatic shut-off feature. Bonus nailer kit is included with a 2 in 1 1-1/4" brad nailer and 1-1/4" stapler. The sturdy handle allows for comfortable handling and simple storage. 1 Gallon tank offers additional stored air capacity. Tank eliminates pulsations caused by piston action.
2-gallon tank adds greater stored air capacity Up to 50% quieter than competitive models for a more comfortable work environment On-board accessory storage keeps small accessories organized and readily available Hose management system keeps hose coiled when not in use for easy transportation and compact storage Using the included hardware, the compressor can be wall-mounted freeing up valuable work space

Even for occasional home maintenance, air tools are more practical and less costly than expensive electric power tools with umpteen mechanical parts and exorbitantly priced batteries of all shapes and sizes. But before investing in smart air tools, you need a quality compressor. This popular 4-gallon twin stack aircompressor from CampbellHausfeld is oil lubricated and built to last. Ideal for inflation, nailing, stapling and spraying jobs, this compressor also powers everything from sandblasters and spray guns to drills and die grinders in a matter of seconds. So, rather than investing in an expensive new electric tool set; save time and money with this 4-gallon compressor and CampbellHausfeld's line of 70 high quality air tools. The initial cost of an air tool is significantly lower than its electrically powered counterpart, and the average tool life expectancy is longer, too. Plus, when powered by this 4-gallon compressor, air tools deliver more torque and higher revolutions-per-minute than electric tools for less downtime and greater productivity.
found in HL5502's reviews: Noisy aircompressor - I just got this compressor a day ago. It came with a CampbellHausfeld 2 1/2 inch finish nailer, an air hose and a quick release air fitting. The compressor fills up quickly but is noisy. Just got this at COSTCO w/finish nailer - I just got this compressor a few days ago and have not really had a chance to test it fully. It came with a CampbellHausfeld 2 1/2 inch finish nailer, an air hose and a quick release air fitting. The compressor fills up quickly but is a little loud. I thought the oiled compressors were quieter. I had been shopping around for an affordable compressor and realized that with COSTCO's return policy that I couldn't go wrong.

The new MAC700 - Hotdog compressor by Makita is blowing away the competition with built-in features such as a super quiet motor that draws only 12.0HP AIRCOMPRESSOR 12. hot dog tank Low amp draw & oil lubricated Roll-bar handle Industrial air filter & cast iron cylinder Oil sight glass & lever handle ball valve Built-in thermal overload for motor protection MAC700 2HP AIRCOMPRESSOR.
found in MAC700's reviews: Great compressor - This is a great little compressor with good output for the price. Mine arrived with a broken part which was no fault of the manufacturer, but they prompted sent me a replacement part without a problem. Great compressor, but check the box thouroughly before signing for delivery! - After working with a friend's older version of this compressor for the last eight months, I decided to splurge and get my own. If this compressor is anything like the older model, it's going to last forever. It looks like someone must've dropped it, and from a pretty good height! One of the legs was bent about 2 inches, so the compressor would rock when set down. Fortunately, the compressor itself (external tubes and gauges and whatnot) are all fine. It's annoying, but I don't want to go through the exchange process and be without air for another two weeks.
The startup process is fairly simple. There are two plastic plugs on the compressor that need to come out. One covers the oil filler, and one covers the air intake port. You replace the plug on the air intake port (topmost plug) with the included air filter, and you replace the oil filler plug with the included oil cap. Then, open the air release valve at the very bottom of the air tank and run the compressor for 20 minutes. Check the oil level periodically, of course!
On a related note, I also bought the CampbellHausfeld MP520010AV air tool accessory kit to get me started. Great Product - shipping bad - Our box was clearly tossed around or banged into during shippment which broke off the air filter assembly that screws into the cylinder head. To avoid the HUGE hassle of returning/shipping the compressor to Amazon, incurring shipping charges that were initially free when I ordered the compressor, lugging it back to UPS, and waiting for who knows how long for a replacement, I contacted Mikita and got a replacement part directly from them. The part was provided free for pick-up and was offered under warranty. An Airbrushing Powerhouse -
I use it to power airbrushes along with an added-on airbrush regulator/gauge/moisture trap. This is exactly what I wanted for airbrushing. It has a much longer lifespan than "airbrush compressors". The airbrushes work consistently all throughout the refill phase. This is the muscle car of airbrush compressors even though it was made in Taiwan. 5 to 10 minutes of airbrushing in silence, and when it comes on it does have some volume, but it is so much less noise than an oilless.
I had to tighten down the crankcase cover (Ref# 29, Part# 304013-E) because it was leaking oil. It's the large exposed part of the motor that you can easily reach and tighten up with a screwdriver. Always damaged - I had the compressor sent out two times, both times, it arrived damaged.
The compressor looked great, felt great, only wish Makita would have packaged it with more padding. I called Makita and they wouldn't send me the broken part unless I went to one of their distributors, and my nearest one is 40 minutes away. Amazon has been great about both returns, but they won't send me a third compressor. Great little compressor - Be sure to fill with oil and install the air filter before starting. It required drilling out the check valve, retapping the threads, buying an equivalent part at the hardware store, and reinstalling. Serious PITA, but cost was minimal and repair works fine.
All in all, a great little compressor, and the best choice if noise is a concern. Great little compressor - I have had this compressor for a couple of weeks now and really like it. I chose this model over the very popular oil-free pancake compressors mainly for it's compact size and low noise level.
The unit is compact, but much heavier duty than similar Cr*ftman compressors I saw at Sears. I did have a problem where the plastic oil filler cap was cracked, but Makita quickly sent me a replacement part under warantee. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for an occasional use compressor and does not want something large or loud. Recieved damaged, Makita service hopeless - Just received this compressor from Amazon/ToolKing. Called Makita to see if I could get the part under Warranty. Makita has a problem in the packing of these compressor's which leaves the valve exposed to being crushed inside the container. If you need to put the compressor into service right away, I suggest buying local or unfortunately another mfg.The compressor is quiet, and seems to run ok, I have only done the initial start up though.Seems to be a great little compressor.(supervisor)The compressor has been in service now for around 8mo.I did solder a new elbow onto a lower area of the check valve which works out better when the compressor rolls on its side.
19-3/8 by 18 by 18-3/4 inches; 77 pounds; 1-year warranty 1/4-inch brass Makita universal coupler Cast-iron pump and roll cage construction 4.2 cfm delivered at 90 psi; low 1,720 rpm extends motor life and lowers noise 13 amp, 2-1/2-horsepower, 4-gallon oiled twin hot dog compressor with handle
found in MAC2400's description:From the Manufacturer
The new MAC2400 - Twin Stack aircompressor by Makita is blowing away the competition.3 amps to operate, a lower 1720 RPM rating and a heavy duty Intake Air Filter system like no other, its easy to see how this unit will out last and outperform everyone else. Large automotive style industrial air filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency.
found in MAC2400's reviews: I'll let you know when I get a chance to use it! - After reading 45 reviews, most of which described the unit arriving damaged in one way or another, it would have been wise on my part to find a source for this compressor where I could pick it up. The other Reviews are Correct, this is a great compressor - This is a quality compressor. The weight comes from steel, not plastic parts.
The compressor is just as quiet as others report.
Why did I get this compressor? In sum, (1) I wanted a GOOD quality tool that was not Chineese junk, (2) I wanted at least 4 cfm for tools and (2) I did not want to spend a fortune. There seems to be several classes or levels of compressor in the lower price range. Unless you are getting a specialized mini-compressor just for a small brad gun, the $125-175 compressors are mostly junk: loud and rough. This Makita is in the next step up, with compressors in the $225 to 325 range. Most of this second tier are either made for just for job sites or are just bigger cheaply made compressors. The Dewalt is an excellent compressor, but you cannot use it next to you in an exclosed shop -- its too loud. It is a very well made little compressor.
The compressor seems to live up to its specs. When I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate.
I have not owned a compressor is many years. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor.
Lastly, no shop came close to Amazon on total price, in large part due to the free shipping. Decent compressor if you can get one without damage - I researched portable compressors for months before deciding on the MAC2400. Even with weight I was quite pleased with the compressor but my buying experience was much less. My first compressor from Amazon had a broken plastic motor cover which wasn't caused by shipping damage. I sent it back and Amazon had a replacement back to me in 3-4 days, Quick!, but that compressor also was damaged. The air cleaner housing was thrown on top of the compressor and beat up the control panel and one gauge from bouncing around. I was told to contact Amazon and after a week of waiting on Amazon, I was told that they could not send part (it would void warranty if replaced) and they were not going to send a replacement compressor. I packaged up the second compressor and sent back. I wasn't going to order another brand compressor from Amazon as I didn't want the hassle if damaged again. looking at Ridgid as I really didn't want a Dewalt or the Porter Cable pancake compressor which they carried. I bought a Ridgid model with a higher cfm rating, larger air tanks, wheels, handle and it came out of box without a scratch. After moving it around the house and up the stairs, I don't know how long I would have enjoyed carrying the MAC2400 or any other brand compressor that weighs 70-80lbs.
Overall the MAC2400 looked and sounded like a good compressor for the short time I had it but makes me wonder how well they are built, with so many problems between packaging and broken parts inside cartons not caused by shipping damage on the Mac700's and a few of these. If you are not in a hurry for a compressor and/or don't care about cosmetic condtion out of the box (if damaged) then Amazon is the place to buy with their best price. I you need one right away and are particular about quality, I would seriously look elsewhere to purchase.
