Everything it promises and more.......... - All I can say is there are a LOT of portable air compressors out there and a lot of them are junk. I did not use the oil that came with compressor though, I decided to run a fully synthetic oil (make sure it is a compressor oil) Ingersoll Rand makes a very high quailty oil for this compressor. Everything is where it should be on this compressor: knobs, gauges, ect. The only thing I would tell someone interested in this compressor is don't be fooled by Porter Cables "oil-free" version of this compressor, I have done a lot of comparision shopping not only is the oil free version much noiser but you will be servicing it much more often than the oil-lube pump. Lowe's sells the "oil-free" version of this compressor for 299.00!!!!!!!! You can purchase this compressor, tax free and shipped free and it will be shipped right to your front door! What a deal! Good job Amazon!.
Outstanding compressor - After using and wearing out several other compressors over the years, I have learned a thing or two about quality. While I use a couple of the DeWalt compressors in my business and am pleased, this PC is my new baby. Don't even think about buying the oil free version. The oiled units are quieter and have 3-4 times the lifespan of their oil free brothers.
Good idea, but a bit more durabilty would be nice - I've been using this compressor for about 2 years of daily remodeling work in Colorado in all weather conditions. I bought it because I was tired of lugging around other compressors that didn't have wheels. The rolling design of this compressor is very good because it can easily go up and down stairs as well as over typical construction site obstacles.

After a year of use the motor kept tripping breakers, so I took the compressor in for service and it received a new compressor and motor.

I work on job sites that have ancient compressors that continue to function flawlessly (but they're really heavy to move around), so I'm a bit worried by the problems I've noticed in only 2 years of use.

Because this compressor is oil lubricated, it does get sluggish in the winter. It also cannot supply as much air as the oil-free version. A trim subcontractor I know has the oil-free version and he has to rebuild his compressor annually with a $40 repair kit, so oil free isn't entirely without issues. But the oil-free version isn't affected by the cold.

If you already have a compressor you like, I'd bolt some good wheels onto it and weld a nice handle onto the frame.

At just a foot high and less than two feet wide out of the carton, this compressor was quite a bit smaller than we expected, so to be fair, we quickly lowered our expectations. The joke was on us, though, because this little powerhouse just doesn’t quit, and we learned that you can’t judge a compressor by its size. Emglo’s half-century in the compressor business is evident in this model, and with a couple of small exceptions (we’ll get into that in a minute), we don’t think anyone could make a finer piece of air power. Now, this may be a plus or a minus in your book, but we liked the fact that the compressor is factory set to power on at 100 psi an+d shut off at 120 psi, and the cycle time was under 15 seconds.) It has air aplenty for two nailers at once, and with that fast recovery, the job will get done in no time.

In balance, this is one of the best compressor’s we’ve seen for the size, power, ruggedness and incredible portability it offers. Here’s to a great pairing of two great toolmakers.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Good machine, but some packaging and assembly issues - To my dissatisfaction, it arrived with a broken air filter and some loose items rolling around in the air tank. No, it wasn't the air filter parts, it was something metalic actually inside the closed tank! Amazon referred me to DeWalt who referred me to my local service center.

Thanks to Amazon's incredibly fast and hassle-free process for returns, I had my replacement compressor less than a week later. Unfortunately, it too had a broken air filter. But since everything else was fine, I bought a filter locally (DeWalt's replacement has yet to arrive) for $10 and kept the compressor. Another surprise with the second shipment was the inclusion of oil, a dipstick, instructions to add oil, and a product manual. This was not in the first shipment and is REQUIRED before starting the unit which is something that as a first-time compressor buyer, I would not have known to do. Would have assumed it would ship with the oil in it.

I recommend this machine but please check over your unit carefully when it arrives and call DeWalt's parts center to get a free replacement filter if that's all you find wrong.

    A pleasure to own! -

Hassle free! I've owned one of these for about a year now and couldn't be more pleased with the purchase.

The biggest complaint I have about other compressors is the portability of them. This helps to center the weight to my body and I can then lug the compressor up several flights of stairs without passing out.

The main reason I bought this unit over cheaper compressors was the recommendation to the brand names of DeWalt and Emglo.

Great Product - shipping bad - Our box was clearly tossed around or banged into during shippment which broke off the air filter assembly that screws into the cylinder head. To avoid the HUGE hassle of returning/shipping the compressor to Amazon, incurring shipping charges that were initially free when I ordered the compressor, lugging it back to UPS, and waiting for who knows how long for a replacement, I contacted Mikita and got a replacement part directly from them. The part was provided free for pick-up and was offered under warranty.
Quiet, Solid, Well Made - I wanted a portable compressor for using my nail guns at old houses, and was ready to replace my antique mastodon shop compressor. I was thinking I may have to buy two compressors, most portable units were too loud for the shop. A few weeks ago I bought a Ridgid brand "oil-free" compressor at Home Depot but it was so loud that I couldn't use it indoors, even covered with a chunk of old carpet. It had good air flow.3 CFM is higher than many of the 75-pound twin stack compressors I saw. To reduce cycling in the shop, I attached my 5-gallon air tank (the kind you use for putting air in a flat tire) to the tank side of the regulator with a T and snap coupler.like don't use the compressor in the bathtub. It's a large, high quality compressor mounted on a small, portable tank. You'll get really spoiled if you're used to a noisy oil-less compressor. I got the free Amazon shipping. I shopped around and couldn't beat the Amazon price with free shipping.
Very good - I placed an order on Monday with free shipping. The compressor is packed very well without any damage. After running it over 20 minuates, I discovered that I did not install the air filter.
Great little compressor - I have had this compressor for a couple of weeks now and really like it. I chose this model over the very popular oil-free pancake compressors mainly for it's compact size and low noise level. I would say this unit is half as loud as those typical oil-fee models by P*rter C*ble.

The unit is compact, but much heavier duty than similar Cr*ftman compressors I saw at Sears. It came with a good owner's manual and a bottle of oil. I did have a problem where the plastic oil filler cap was cracked, but Makita quickly sent me a replacement part under warantee. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for an occasional use compressor and does not want something large or loud.
Recieved damaged, Makita service hopeless - Just received this compressor from Amazon/ToolKing.
Makita has a problem in the packing of these compressor's which leaves the valve exposed to being crushed inside the container. If you need to put the compressor into service right away, I suggest buying local or
unfortunately another mfg.The compressor is quiet, and seems to
run ok, I have only done the initial start up though.Seems to be a great little compressor. To be fare MAKITA did ship out a new elbow free of charge, I just had to speak with the right "person".(supervisor)The compressor has been in service now for around 8mo.I did solder a new elbow onto a lower area of the check valve which works out better when the compressor rolls on its side.

The new MAC2400 - Twin Stack air compressor by Makita is blowing away the competition.3 amps to operate, a lower 1720 RPM rating and a heavy duty Intake Air Filter system like no other, its easy to see how this unit will out last and outperform everyone else. Oil Lubricated - Cooler running pump, minimizes wear. Large automotive style industrial air filter for increased air intake and greater efficiency. Oil sight glass for fast, easy and efficient maintenance.
    found in MAC2400's reviews:
Excellent Air Compressor - I had previously made the LOUD mistake of getting a "maintenance-free" air compressor. Although not silent, this air compressor is MUCH more tolerable. This compressor is also of good quality and very sturdy (heavy) construction.
It's a sweet piece - Having used various compressors in the past from cheap chinese brands to high end models this unit ranks right up there with the better ones. Amazon had the best price and with free shipping it was by far the best deal. If this is the size compressor that suits your needs you won't go wrong buying this one.
Good compressor but bad packing - I bought this compressor and when I got it there was a crack in the actual compressor housing. When I got this one it had damage to the front air gauge area from the loose air cleaner banging around free in the box.
A well made , quiet compressor. - I have been using this compressor trimming houses for the last three weeks and I am well pleased with it's performance. I usually run two to three 15 gauge trim guns at a time and this compressor is more than adequate for my needs. The main reason I purchased this compressor over several other brands was the ability to run it off of a 100' 10 gauge extension cord without tripping the breaker, it only draws 12. The added bonus is just how quiet it is, it's way quieter than any other compressor I have used. I DO NOT recommend buying an oil free compressor , I have used several, and just haven't got the life out of them like an oil lube.
Superb compressor - Makita needs to fire their packing design person. - I am extremely happy with the compressor for general garage, woodworking, and around-the-house duties. My first unit was badly damaged by a loose air filter (with a thick metal bolt) that was just floating around in the box. I returned it, second unit also damaged in exactly the same spot also by the same free-floating air compressor.
The other Reviews are Correct, this is a great compressor - This is a quality compressor.

The compressor is just as quiet as others report.

Why did I get this compressor? In sum, (1) I wanted a GOOD quality tool that was not Chineese junk, (2) I wanted at least 4 cfm for tools and (2) I did not want to spend a fortune. There seems to be several classes or levels of compressor in the lower price range. Unless you are getting a specialized mini-compressor just for a small brad gun, the $125-175 compressors are mostly junk: loud and rough. This Makita is in the next step up, with compressors in the $225 to 325 range. Most of this second tier are either made for just for job sites or are just bigger cheaply made compressors. The Dewalt is an excellent compressor, but you cannot use it next to you in an exclosed shop -- its too loud. It is a very well made little compressor.

The compressor seems to live up to its specs. When I went to use a Snap-On 7200 3/8" air ratchet, the performance was just adequate.

I have not owned a compressor is many years. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor.

Lastly, no shop came close to Amazon on total price, in large part due to the free shipping.

Very Satisfied - The compressor is small and light, easily fits in the trunk or back seat, a breeze to move from place to place. I live in an apartment, and I agree with others who have found the noise level lower than other compressors, a blessing in that environment.

Not having any experience with air tools, yet knowing it was the way to go to install casing and baseboard in my kitchen remodel, I agonized over whether to get a brad or finish nailer. I opted for a brad nailer since the Hitachi saw I purchased came with a coupon for a free 16ga finish nailer-- a deal I couldn't pass up. While still waiting for the freebie to arrive, I have been using the brad nailer and it is nothing less than terrific.

Recommended Unit - I'm pleased with the Makita MAC700KIT 2 HP Air Compressor Kit I purchased from Amazon. I did a fair amount of research and was tempted to purchase a Porter-Cable oil-free kit, but after borrowing a Craftsman (same as Porter-Cable)oil-free compressor from a friend, I decided to go with the oil lubricated Makita primarily because the unit is much quieter but also because I'm convinced the oil-based units have a longer life span. VT6290 and FedEx - The box was busted on one side causing some of the content to spill outside (a tire and air filter). On top of that, FedEx delivered the box upside down, causing the discharge tube to bend, the air filter to separate from the pump, a busted pressure gauge and a bent handle bar.

So I filled the ugly duckling with oil, did the 30 minute pump break in, and it worked very well.
The compressor DOES NOT include oil. It takes 12 ounces of Mobil 1 10W-30 Synthetic oil. The air filter supplied causes the compressor to be kind of noisy.

Except for the awful FedEx delivery, I am happy with the compressor. Free delivery, free air hose, no tax, and 10% off.

    Product Description
8 Gallon, 15A Cast Iron Air Compressor, Oil Lube Pump With 2.
    found in HL5501's reviews:
Sturdy, portable, cheap oil-lubricated compressor... But noisy! - Pros: Affordable, portable, sturdy, very heavy-duty power cord,
    oil-lubed dependability.
Cons: Noisy (for an oil-lube), poor quality wheel hardware
(could've been an isolated problem on only my unit).

Let me start by saying that I can't live without an air compressor. Those of you who don't have one have no idea how much you'll use it and what an integral part of any household project or repair it will become when you finally have one. That being said, let me explain why I bought this particular compressor and what I think about it thus far.

Until recently, I had an 8-gallon oil-free compressor that was handed down to me from my dad after I bought him a large stationary garage unit about 6 years ago. This thing lasted about 13 years with very regular use with a few repairs over the years. This is absolutely unheard of with an oil-free compressor. In order to replace the blue tarp roof provided by FEMA with some actual shingles, I will need a compressor to power my roofing and framing nailers. Portability and reliability are important factors in order to assist with the reconstruction efforts of the community once the repairs to my home are complete. This is why I decided on an oil-lubricated compressor. Although I had great success with the aforementioned oil-free compressor, I do understand that this was more the exception than the rule. It is hard to find an oil-lubed compressor that is both portable and affordable., making them very difficult to get in and out of your truck/car by yourself, let alone getting them up a flight of stairs. Many oil-lubed units only run on 240V, so those of us without that luxury have to look for the 120V versions to run in our homes. Finally, you have to add the oil to the pump. This compressor does not come with oil, even though the instruction manual says "only use the oil that was shipped with the compressor." The other thing that you will run into is that it does not come with a coupler to connect an air hose to. Although this is very common for air tools not to come with the required fittings to connect it to a hose, there is one difference here. I have never seen a quick-disconnect air hose connector (the hose end that has the sleeve to release the connection) with male threads on it. (a brass pipe nipple for you plumbers out there)

    Use:
The Campbell Hausfeld HL5501 overall seems to be a very good compressor. If you are looking into this compressor because of the reduced noise level that oil-lubed compressors are known for, then you will be disappointed. This compressor is every bit as loud as any comparable oil-free unit.

    Conclusion:
I would recommend this compressor to the handy home user that wants the reliability and longevity of an oil-lube compressor, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. I would not recommend this compressor if the noise level is a big issue, but be prepared to spend a lot more money for a belt-driven unit.

incomplete package - As someone who is new to the Air tool game, I didn't want to spend alot of money seeing how I do not use air tools regularly but wanted to try them out.To get longer service life than oil free units, This compressor is an oil lubricated unit and yet it does not come with oil! I guess thats one way they can cut costs. It also does not come with a quick connect fitting at the output end, but rather has female threads that you screw an air hose into.
I saw this compressor for 139.99-VERY SNEAKY< AMAZON!
I got the free shipping and it only took two days to get here, so I shouldn't complain i guess.
The manual is not very well written at all, so take your time and read it over a couple of times!
When you get this compressor, you will have to go out and buy; 1 bottle of mobile one synthetic motor oil(10w30)for abot 5 dollars, a 1/4 inch fitting and quick connect(about 12 dollars). Now you are ready to plug in a hose and air tools.I am extremely happy with this compressor-it really isn't any noisier than other compressors in this price range-lets face it-compressors are a power tool and thus are loud!I did not find the noise that bad at all.
My total investment to get this up and running was still less than 200 dollars which is not bad for an oil lubed compressor. This unit would have been 4 or 5 stars if it came with better directions, oil, and a quick conect fitting on the end.
