The 20 gallon horizontal ASME code tank is very portable and will not take up too much valuable real estate in the garage or on the job. The twin cylinder, oil lubricated, cast iron single stage pump runs quieter - so the compressor can be used in the same area that the work is taking place. Solid cast iron units are up to 35% quieter than aluminum units with cast iron cylinder sleeves, and dramatically quieter than direct drive aluminum compressors. SINGLE STAGE AIRCOMPRESSOR. Single Stage Cast Iron Compressor5 HP Peak, 20 Gallon.
found in VT6290's reviews: Might work if received undamaged.......and with oil...and a few fixes - The shipping box is flimsy and cannot adequately support nor protect the compressor and parts. Mine arrived with a broken regulator, pressure gauge and air-filter assembly all of which apparently snapped off during shipment with no visible exterior box damage.
As the other reviewer also mentioned the compressor does NOT come with oil so be sure to have SAE30 air-compressor oil ready when it arrives. Also, you will need to provide your choice of air outlet connector.
If it wasn't for the bad shipment packaging I'd say initially that the compressor is a good buy but if Campbell Hausfeld has so little regard to protecting their product in shipment to you I question the integrity of the machine itself.
UPDATE 7/15: I am updating this review a full day after receiving and can add more to the trials and tribulations of purchasing a C-H compressor. The air filter assembly is currently taped but working until I can get a replacment. One leak occurred in the main pipeline to tank (seal was improperly installed), another in the undamaged tank pressure gauge (somone missed adding teflon tape) and the third in the pressure tubing to the cutoff switch (not tightened). All in all if you include travel time to Home Depot nearly 2-1/2 hours were spent just getting the compressor to work only to discover that there is a leak at weld where the pump mount attaches to the tank.) if using an extension cable as this compressor does draw a load when starting.
IMHO I wouldn't order a product like this if you need it for an immediate job as it will take to either repair yourself or to return and await a replacement. I needed this compressor to replace my dead one and ordered it to coincide with my time at home as I could not expect my wife to unload it. VT6290 and FedEx - The box was busted on one side causing some of the content to spill outside (a tire and air filter). On top of that, FedEx delivered the box upside down, causing the discharge tube to bend, the air filter to separate from the pump, a busted pressure gauge and a bent handle bar. The tank takes around 4 minutes to fill up to 135 pounds of pressure. The compressor DOES NOT include oil. The air filter supplied causes the compressor to be kind of noisy.
Except for the awful FedEx delivery, I am happy with the compressor. Free delivery, free air hose, no tax, and 10% off.

4 HP, 4 Gallon, Gas Twin Stack Compressor, High Volume Air Output 4.5 CFM @ 100 PSI, PortableAir Power Honda 4 HP Gas, Automatic Throttle Idle Control, Direct Drive Pump For Improved Portability, Oil Lubricated Improved Compressor Life.
found in D55250's reviews: Incredible cfm for weight! - I bought this compressor for use in heavy commercial construction. It is more portable than the wheelbarrow compressors and can be put in the back of a pickup truck (unit is no feather weight though --- about 70 lbs!) This compressor has the best of all features--- reliable Honda engine, reliable Emglo compressor, overbuilt protective frame and quality gauges and quick connects make this an outstanding compressor. Most compressors capable of running two frame nailers draw enough power that it will constantly trip the the breaker on a temporary service pole unless run on 240 volts. With the gasoline compressor, all you have to do is make sure it has fuel and start it up! No extension cords and no more tripped breakers! We have used this compressor to run two paslode frame nailers shooting down 5/8" plywood nailed every 3" around the perimeter (120 mph rating) and this little guy could amazingly keep up! The compressor isn't louder than the DeWalt electric counterpart when running and the Honda engine means it will run for many years to come. Go buy a lighter, less expensive compressor for the finish guns. This machine is meant to turn out a much more substantial amount of air!
The only downside to this compressor is the price and its weight. That is a lot of money to shell over for a machine that does nothing more than compress air! But, then again, would you really be reading this if all you needed was an average duty Lowe's variety compressor? And if you have a pickup, leave the unit in the back and let it run. compressor up. It seems like they could have trimmed a few more pounds off the compressor and a few more dollars!

found in CPF23400S's reviews: This PortableCompressor is Rugged and Well Built ! - Surprised and impressed! I looked at Home Depot and Lowes and decided to order this aircompressor to save the Tax and the trouble of bring it home. )
Pluged it in, It filled the 4 Gallon tank in 44 Seconds. Thats starting with the tank completely empty.
Looking at the other brands of portablecompressors I really like how well this one is built. Great little aircompressor - This aircompressor is great! This unit is fairly quiet, compact, light enough to be toted around if needed, no oil needed and very powerful. This unit replaced a 12 year old 15 gallons, 2 hp, craftsman rolling aircompressor and all I can say is that I wish I purchased this unit sooner. I like the portable size too, it doesn't take up too much room. When comparing the 2 units the Porter Cable is definitely stronger, the only difference being that when you are running any tools the compressor is running almost non stop compared to a unit with a larger tank that does not have to refill as fast. I consider this a plus though, because I always drain the tank after each use and it does not take as long to release all the air. At this price range there are many choices out there for anyone looking for a compact aircompressor but when you start to compare CFM ratings @ 90 PSI this one has the highest ratings. Great General Purpose PortableCompressor - I bought this compressor to run nail guns, air sand and spray paint.) The tank pressure gauge is just behind it. This regulates the pressure that reaches the hoses, not the tank pressure. It is also handy to limit the pressure to safe levels for your various air tools. Shut it off, close the valve and turn it back on; you're ready for action! The unit really is portable, especially with the well balanced carry handle protruding from the top. I can easily carry it with one hand from the tank side. It is not as loud as large upright compressors, but it does make a fair amount of noise, although not as much as I expected. I use it with a Souix air sander and it does run longer when I am working. If you take on a tractor trailer, get a bigger compressor. Darn Good Little Compressor - Short and sweet - this compressor delivers on its promises - it is easy to use, easy to break-in, easy to maintain, and you can't beat the duel air hose inlets. I have found both of the built in pressure gauges to be accurate, and the oil-free motor is quieter than other compressors I have used (although it still makes a good bit of noise). To me, that's portable - I can understand how that would not be the case with everyone, but my experience leads me to believe that this compressor has a very good weight-to-horsepower-to-air storage capacity ratio. Also, this thing is built like a tank - strong welds, a great 'roll-cage' and tough rubber feet. Great buy - Size of the tank is fine, but its really about the horsepower of the motor and amount of air motor can put out so that you don't have long period of motor running in order to build a pressure in the tank. This 3hp engine is much better than large size tank with 2hp engine. Great for various air tools -
Size of the tank is fine, but its really about the horsepower of the motor and amount of air motor can put out so that you don't have long period of motor running in order to build a pressure in the tank. This 3hp engine is much better than large size tank with 2hp engine. Frustrated with the technical assistance - I received my compressor and unpack it. When I turn it on, the tank pressure gauge wasn't working. I went there with the compressor and they took it and said to leave it there for one day, and on the next day they should call me to pick it up. But, after 3 days, they still didn't have changed the little tank pressure gauge, and they said "we are waiting for Porter Cable to send this piece to us, you have to wait until next week". Ohhh! Come on!!! I can't believe that! The most common and cheap part of a compressor they don't have in stock!? Is that kind of technical assistance we have from Porter Cable when we just buy a brand new compressor and need it working??? I think I should send it back and bought another from another company, because, now, I'm just waiting and I can't do my job. Better than the pancake model - I've used the smaller Porter-Cable pancake compressor for about 2 years. The only thing I don't think is an improvement is the knob for adjusting air pressure.
This time I installed the compressor with the air hose reel from Amazon mounted right beside it on the floor. If you get the reel, you'll probably need to make a trip to the local hardware store for an interconnecting piece to connect the reel to the compressor. I now use the pancake style as the portable one (I agree, this one's too heavy). Plenty of Power to Offer...but it needs plenty, too. - I tried the compressor on an undedicated 15 amp circuit, and it immediately blew the switch every time. I also learned (the hard way, of course) that if you are using the compressor with a 50' extension chord (with too high a guage) on a 20 amp circuit, the pump will not get enough electricity to pump air after cutting-in when the tank pressure drops to 110 psi (the specified cut-in pressure) - the pump will start pumping, but quickly stop and you'll hear the motor straining until it blows the 20 amp circuit, too. Porter Cable told me that if I plan to use even a 20 amp circuit with an extension chord, I need to use a 12 (preferable 10) gauge extention chord (ideally 25' rather than 50'), or the pump won't get enough juice to cut-in properly and refill the tanks. It's cheaper, my new Porter Cable friends say, to buy more air hose than the right gauge extention chord - Ah, such knowledge I'm gaining. Sadly, the compressor arrived with an air intake filter housing badly bent downward (done apparently at the factory, as the box from Amazon wasn't damaged), so I couldn't remove the air filter. AND, the drain valve (to drain water from the bottom of the tank) would not completely close allowing lots of air to excape from the tank. In my chats with an Amazon tool sales rep, and later with a Porter Cable tech rep (to help me unravel the compressor's electrical-needs mysteries), both Companies quickly and nicely insisted on sending me a new air intake filter housing and a new drain valve (I guess I'm getting two of each?) - no questions asked. The machine is fairly loud, but it only takes my pump about 6 seconds to refill the tanks from the 110 psi cut-in pressure to the specified 135 psi cut-out pressure. I figure the noise level goes hand-in-hand with the added power this compressor offers - power I think I need. This is a SERIOUS compressor - Desipite its small size and minimal airtank capacity, this is a very serious commercial duty aircompressor. AC induction motors like the ones found in this compressor are far superior to brushed AC motors found in most "consumer" aircompressors. Because of this motor, the compressor is able to deliver air flows similar to larger 15 gallon compressors. Quite frankly, I'm amazed that anyone can sell this compressor for such a low cost. Aside from air sanding or heavy duty HVLP paint spraying, there is nothing that I cannot do with this compressor. First Impressions... - It only took 3-days for my new compressor to arrive at my doorstep! And best of all, the shipping was free! I immediately unpacked the unit and checked it over. I followed the manufacturer's advice and went through the 15-minute break-in period leaving the tank drain valve open while the motor was running. When I shut the valve after 15-minutes of run time, it only took a few seconds to fill the twin tanks to 130 p. Although I haven't used my compressor yet, first impressions are everything. This unit is compact, relatively light weight, fairly quiet, and fills up extremely quick! I can't wait to attach my air nailer and get to work!!!. Excellent compressor - quietest I've used in its category - I am never able to live without a good aircompressor. I use them for a variety of tasks from simple blowing to nailers and air hammers. As smaller aircompressors go, this one really delivers a nice, steady pressure for quite a long time.
Normally I like to blow through my air gun at about 50psi to clear sawdust. Blowing air at that pressure really drains a small compressor fast, but this one really handles it well and gives me quite a bit of extra time due to the fact that the motor really kicks in quickly and efficiently to keep the pressure up. In fact, from empty it only takes about a minute to fill the tank, which is nice.
I couldn't outpace the compressor with a single nailer.
The two air ports is really nice in one this size because I can put the compressor underneath my workbench and mount a static line on my workbench for easy access anytime while leaving the other open for longer hoses. These size compressors can make an INCREDIBLE amount of noise, but the Porter-Cable 3hp 4 gallon side stack really keeps the noise level at a minimum.

Product Description
8 Gallon, 15A Cast Iron AirCompressor, Oil Lube Pump With 2.
found in HL5501's reviews: Sturdy, portable, cheap oil-lubricated compressor... But noisy! - Pros: Affordable, portable, sturdy, very heavy-duty power cord, oil-lubed dependability.
Let me start by saying that I can't live without an aircompressor. Those of you who don't have one have no idea how much you'll use it and what an integral part of any household project or repair it will become when you finally have one. That being said, let me explain why I bought this particular compressor and what I think about it thus far.
Until recently, I had an 8-gallon oil-free compressor that was handed down to me from my dad after I bought him a large stationary garage unit about 6 years ago. This thing lasted about 13 years with very regular use with a few repairs over the years. This is absolutely unheard of with an oil-free compressor. In order to replace the blue tarp roof provided by FEMA with some actual shingles, I will need a compressor to power my roofing and framing nailers. Portability and reliability are important factors in order to assist with the reconstruction efforts of the community once the repairs to my home are complete. This is why I decided on an oil-lubricated compressor. Although I had great success with the aforementioned oil-free compressor, I do understand that this was more the exception than the rule. It is hard to find an oil-lubed compressor that is both portable and affordable., making them very difficult to get in and out of your truck/car by yourself, let alone getting them up a flight of stairs. The pressure switch is mounted to a post that is welded to the tank. This compressor does not come with oil, even though the instruction manual says "only use the oil that was shipped with the compressor." The other thing that you will run into is that it does not come with a coupler to connect an air hose to. Although this is very common for air tools not to come with the required fittings to connect it to a hose, there is one difference here. I have never seen a quick-disconnect air hose connector (the hose end that has the sleeve to release the connection) with male threads on it. (a brass pipe nipple for you plumbers out there)
Use: The Campbell Hausfeld HL5501 overall seems to be a very good compressor. If you are looking into this compressor because of the reduced noise level that oil-lubed compressors are known for, then you will be disappointed. This compressor is every bit as loud as any comparable oil-free unit.
Conclusion: I would recommend this compressor to the handy home user that wants the reliability and longevity of an oil-lube compressor, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. I would not recommend this compressor if the noise level is a big issue, but be prepared to spend a lot more money for a belt-driven unit.

found in C3551's reviews: Everything it promises and more.......... - All I can say is there are a LOT of portableaircompressors out there and a lot of them are junk. I did not use the oil that came with compressor though, I decided to run a fully synthetic oil (make sure it is a compressor oil) Ingersoll Rand makes a very high quailty oil for this compressor. Everything is where it should be on this compressor: knobs, gauges, ect. The only thing I would tell someone interested in this compressor is don't be fooled by Porter Cables "oil-free" version of this compressor, I have done a lot of comparision shopping not only is the oil free version much noiser but you will be servicing it much more often than the oil-lube pump. Lowe's sells the "oil-free" version of this compressor for 299.00!!!!!!!! You can purchase this compressor, tax free and shipped free and it will be shipped right to your front door! What a deal! Good job Amazon!. Good mid-range job compressor. - My old dual tank wheel barrow-style compressor that I bought at Truitt and White Lumber in Berkeley lasted for ten years of moderate but daily use in my remodeling business. When that finally broke down I bought a pancake compressor as a quick fix, since I was doing more and more design work and gradually easing my way into retirement. So I decided to purchase this mid-range compressor.
As described below, the compressor is not the most durable. But overall, it's been a good handy compressor that I would recommend for anyone who is not engaged in heavy duty framing and running the thing 8 hours a day for months and years on end. For that you need the old double-tank wheelbarrow style compressor. I bought the Porter-Cable C3551 . . . AND I'M STILL GLAD!!! - I shopped long and hard for a well built portablecompressor that was durable and just plain practical. This is a fantastic compressor. Rattler - As some previous comments, Porter-Cable needs to do a much better job of packaging this unit!
Luckily, there was no external damage to the unit, but there is quite a few things rattling around either in the motor or the tank (I can't tell which) so, I'm afraid to put oil in it and getting it started. The Porter-Cable C3551 is a very nice compressor - I have a few compressors already - but they are too big and bulky to move around and my previous smaller 10 gallon compressor is getting a bit rough around the edges. 10 years old for a oil-less compressor is a pretty good.
With that said I wanted a new smaller compressor to aid in the remodel work I'm doing.
Upon receiving the compressor I gave it a quick once over.
The performance of the compressor is very good. It fills quick, cycles infrequently, and is fairly quiet.
I think this is one of the best small compressors out there. If you need a nice portablecompressor - look no further. For me it came down to the DEWALT D55155 or this compressor. Good idea, but a bit more durabilty would be nice - I've been using this compressor for about 2 years of daily remodeling work in Colorado in all weather conditions. I bought it because I was tired of lugging around other compressors that didn't have wheels. The rolling design of this compressor is very good because it can easily go up and down stairs as well as over typical construction site obstacles.
After a few months of use the tank pressure gauge failed, and Porter Cable sent me a replacement.
After a year of use the motor kept tripping breakers, so I took the compressor in for service and it received a new compressor and motor.
I work on job sites that have ancient compressors that continue to function flawlessly (but they're really heavy to move around), so I'm a bit worried by the problems I've noticed in only 2 years of use.
Because this compressor is oil lubricated, it does get sluggish in the winter. It also cannot supply as much air as the oil-free version. A trim subcontractor I know has the oil-free version and he has to rebuild his compressor annually with a $40 repair kit, so oil free isn't entirely without issues.
If you already have a compressor you like, I'd bolt some good wheels onto it and weld a nice handle onto the frame.
Update: The tank pressure gauge broke again, but I decided not to replace it. 1 man carpenter - I received the compressor from amazon with no defects. I run the compressor at 115 psi for the pasolode. The compressor does need time to build pressure to keep up with my 1 gun for nailing plywood. tank. The compressor does have a quick recovery 10 to 15 seconds to cutoff so I'm able to nail with short breaks. For every other aspect of framing this compressor is a 5 star. And I know that the compressor rated at 4. The compressor is rated properly. The compressor does run quieter than the oiless compressor I did have. I am very happy with the compressor and can live with the short breaks during the nailing of plywood. Performs to expectations -
My C3551 arrived with a defective tank pressure guage. I specifically wanted an oil lube compressor for durability, and this model fits that requirement. For handyman work or specialty trim nailing, this compressor is ideal.
Long life, contractor quality, rated for continuous use. Low 10 amp draw - works on cords.
Quiet running - use indoors or out
Lightweight and portable, only 43 lbs

Accessories are included for convenient use right out of the box. Compressor offers automatic shut-off feature. Bonus nailer kit is included with a 2 in 1 1-1/4" brad nailer and 1-1/4" stapler. found in FP202899AV's reviews: handy for small jobs - The small one gallon tank is great for small jobs around the house and is pretty light to carry. Dont Buy this!!! - Still this thing didnt help me @ all, in fact it managed to drain any available air i had in my tire out. Problems:: 1) Never built up enough pressure in tha tank to inflate tires 2) Couldnt even maintain airpressure, airpressure dropped dramatically when attempting to fill tires. 3) It actually aided in draining remaining air out of tires. 4) My car is really screwed now, since i only have 17lbs of air in 1 tire.
